tdauria
Hey guys, I've been reading posts on this forum for months, but just decided it was time to make an account... My question is how easy would it be to add the rear spare tire carrier to my 1995 XE Pathy? I already have a donor vehicle...My old '87 SE... I tried searching for a tutorial or any information regarding this, but couldn't really find anything on the forums... so if anyone has done this or knows of where i could find the necessary information to do this please let me know! Thanks! [Trying hard not to be that obnoxious new guy that everyone always hates]
nunya
1st welcome! As for adding a factory carrier to a non-carrier truck, it's a little more than just "unbolt here and bolt back on here". There are braces within the quarter panel for the carrier (that also house the threads for the bolts) that non-carrier trucks do not have. You have to either cut the quarter panel apart to get to them in the doner (then waste way too much time figuring a way to get them INTO the receiving truck-trust me, it sucks. I personally went this route) or I belive every other person around here with a little common sence bought a kit that contains all the brackets in an easier-to-use package. Oh, and we like pics around here... Hint hint
Precise1
Welcome Bud!! I see you've met Nunya and he's filled you in on the tire carrier other than I believe it was 4x4parts.com who carried the install brackets? B
tdauria
Sorry it took so long to get back, I've been pretty swamped with classes lately... But thanks for the info, guys. I wasn't sure if there were mounts in my current pathy for the carrier, as it has threaded mounts for the tow hook my '87 came with and there seemed to be little dents where the carrier mounts would go. I was really hoping for a simple bolt-in solution but no dice i guess. Anyways, thanks again for the info and the warm reception of a newbie! silverton
dents? I don't think there are supposed to be dents, but I have never seen a non-carrier truck up close. are the holes there? Maybe your truck usta have a carrier and someone took it off cause the worn bushings were driving them bonkers?
nunya
under the hatch where the small hardware goes (where the carrier latches and the little guide thing) there are dimples where you drill and the braces are actually there on non carrier trucks but the actual quarter panel where the full carrier mounts around the taillight should be smooth and bracket-less behind it.
