statikuz
I searched the hell out of this one but I must be missing the one thread that talks about it. Anytime I turn, either direction, I can hear a clunk from the rear end, for instance if I'm driving straight and do some NASCAR-style tire warming it goes clunk clunk clunk clunk each time I turn. I checked around back there, everything seems to be tightened down, its not the tire carrier or stuff bouncing around in the back. Any ideas on what the problem could be or what I should check? Thanks! This is thoroughly annoying...

88pathoffroad
The CV's don't spin unless the hubs are locked or the t-case is in 4WD...
statikuz
I'm sure that it's coming from the back...
Nufy
I thought it was all or some of those as well on mine. Turns out I had/have a broken exhaust mount in the backl an dit was llowing it to bang on my running boards. I removed the boards and the knocking went away. Try the simple stuff first. 88pathoffroad
Yeah. Lie underneath it and have somebody bounce on your back bumper as hard as they can. See what moves. Or if you're strong enough, do bench presses from underneath and bounce it yourself.
Adelard of Bath
Mine does this...or ~maybe~ a different noise....I always assumed that it was limited slip rear diff making the clunking/groaning noises? Maybe someone before me installed an automatic locker! Admittedly I know very little about lockers/LSD but I used to read a Dodge Ramcharger forum where guys were always talking about installing lockers, and how they made disconcerting noises when you drove on pavement. 88pathoffroad
A locker will click repeatedly around corners, but not when going over bumps.
statikuz
Alrighty... I thought it might be the body mount bolts cuz it sounded like the lift blocks were sliding around just enough to make noise but that wasn't the case... I had the tire guy crank them down and he said they were already tight. Any other thoughts? It's weird, because if I turn, say, left, it clunks, but then if i continue to turn left, it's quiet until I turn right... almost like something is sliding over, getting stopped, then sliding back the other direction... MaritimeMan
That really sounds like the front crossmember. I know you said from the rear, but have you checked them? Here's the link I think you were lookin for. Mr Jim to save the day again
statikuz
Nah, that's not it... I had that problem before but it's definitely coming from the rear. I can be going around a slow turn and it clunks a few times then stops.
jj big shoe
Just a wild guess, but do you have anything in the rear storage panels? Something could be rolling around in there if so.
statikuz
I thought that might be it too but I checked all around in the back and there's nothing to knock around... I'm sure its coming from the rear axle area or something...
88pathoffroad
It's a bushing or loose part. Have you gotten under there yet and had someone bounce on the back bumper while you watch? $5 says it's either a swaybar endlink or shock bushing. statikuz
I think I'm gonna get to installing the rear shocks tomorrow so I'll check those out and report back...
