Speedy engine install

Pulled the tc out and the input shaft came out with it. Trying to free it up now which is a pain in the ass.

Plus I never removed the input shaft to begin with.

What is going on here?

I did not purposely remove the input shaft for this install and if you really understood I CANNOT remove the stuck input shaft from the torque converter and put it in wrong. It probably wouldn't fit either if you switched the orientation.

Stuck huh... did you force the engine to mate with the transmission at all? Coulda bound it up in there if the splines weren't seated correctly and it was forced into place, got stuck, and the only way for something to give was the input shaft detaching from the transmission. From the pic it looks like the shaft isn't even centered in the torque converter. Looks like a pretty good oops! I'd be looking for a new input shaft and torque converter.

Also the input shaft slides into the clutch pack, possibly 1 or more of the clutches could have slipped out of alignment in that case the input shaft will not seat all the way into the tranny :(

I called a transmission shop and they said it's a possibility too. I also found a piece of clutch disc inside the shaft tunnel.

.....and my passenger frame is tweaked inwards towards the centerline so the hole in the engine mounts don't line up. I'm about an inch off. :friday:

If you found a piece of clutch disk that means a tear down,

look at it this way now's a good time to stab a 5 speed in her

I have to resolve the frame issue first before I go any further. I have to weigh my options now.

See if I can get the frame straightened. Run the transmission until it slips. Or find a clunker with straight frame and swap everything over.

You probably have at least 1 clutch disk broken, if you try and force

the input shaft back into the tranny and bolt it and the converter back onto the engine your going to really damage the tranny
