I did a 3"... Just loosen the nut that holds it together near the splines and they will come out as necessary when you jack the body up.

 

so i can just do a 2" with the stock steering shaft?

Yup, the unibody r50 people who do sub frame drops are the ones who have to modify. Wd21 people get away with loosening 1 bolt, a can of penetrating fluid, and sometimes a hammer (I hear they can get jammed up a little for some)
