HitMan Posted April 2, 2011 Share Posted April 2, 2011 So I was wondering if anyone has attempted or knows if you can swap stock roof racks on the R50? I have a 96 and I know that from 96-99 it just has the two tracks with sliding bars that move up and down the roof. The 99.5-01 I think? have the second style with sliding bars, and then the 02-04 have the roof cage almost that has the decals on the side that say pathfinder. So, I was wondering if anyone knew if they were interchangeable or not. I'm assuming not...but I guess someone on here would know better. I was just thinking about it and my girlfriend has an 04 R50 with the cage, so I am going to check her's tomorrow to see where the mounting points are compared to mine. HitMan Posted April 2, 2011 Author Share Posted April 2, 2011 So the girlfriend came over today to clean her truck and I took advantage of it and took her rack off and see if it fit on mine. And.. it did, really easy to do in fact. I just had to take the end caps off the rails and took the cross bars off. Then I went over and took the 04 rack off. It is just 8 torque bolts that are mounted two in each corner of the roof. You just pop the plastic covers off each corner and remove the bolts and pull the whole thing off as one piece. Then it mounts in the same existing holes that are on my 96 roof already. So, the R50 roof is standard from 96-04 and all the parts can be interchangeable if you want them too be. I asked if the girlfriend wanted to switch roof racks for awhile and she said heck no, mine is a million times better haha. Here are some pics let me know what you think. I always wanted to switch over racks but I fear that It may not fit in the garage anymore and im not too sure on how about to mount my lights to that. Def a cool mod though! RCAR50 Posted February 4, 2015 Share Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Wow, everyone resisted the urge to comment on posting pics of his girlfriends rack.... hahaha. Ok so it's just me... I am personally upgrading my ridiculous and near useless non existent stock 2wd rack or runner i suppose it is with one from a 4wd with two tall adjustabke and three low adjustable rails I picked up a week ago at the pick and pull.
