Verb83
Hi. i have a 96 pathfinder se. since the temperature here has dropped i have had a squealling sound coming from the front of the engine. not sure that the temperature has anything to do with the sound but i figured it may be relavent. it does not sound like a belt squeal. it changes with engine rpm, but when i get to the higher rpm range and the fan kicks on the sound goes away. any one have any ideas on what it could be? i was thinking it could be the fan clutch but really not sure. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg Edited December 18, 2010 by Verb83
tekazgtr1984
Fan clutch would be my guess. But don't you mean when the fan goes off the sound goes away?
adamzan
Sounds like the fan clutch. I just had to replace mine because it was doing the same thing. When the clutch was not engaged it make a bunch of squawking noises. Thought it was a belt, changed it, but no go. Put a new napa clutch on and it's been good ever since.
