I'm about to redo my front windshield and I was just wondering if I can re-use one of these silicone sealers I have...

I like that idea because they are made to withstand high temperatures. Or should I get something else?

If you are talking aout the actual bonding agent used to "glue" (and seal) the glass in place, then no, do not use any of those for installation. They simply do not have the strength required to do the job togo.gif

http://www.automedia...ccr20050801wi/1

Back in the days of giant finned Cadillacs and monster V-8 musclecars, heavy and strong stamped steel pillars held up the roof. The glass merely went along for the ride. As efficiency became more important, vehicle construction changed. Engineers began to utilize the strength of safety glass to support the roof for weight savings and accompanying improved mileage. In some vehicles, the windshield also helps support a deploying passenger side airbag. For these reasons, using the proper adhesive to chemically bond the replacement glass to the vehicle structure is of the utmost importance, especially in the case of vehicle rollover or airbag deployment. Using the incorrect adhesive may not just result in leaks, and cause cabin noise, but it could also result in serious injury in the event of an accident.

There are several out there, such as those offered by 3M

no, to both products you listed, you need urethane such as this:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Super-Fast-Urethane---Black-%2810-5-fl--oz-%29-3M_6012418-P_N3239_T|GRP2034____

this auto parts store also sells it in a caulking tube size and is what I would recommend as it will be easier to apply using a caulking gun

here is the specifics for this product:

one thing if you do use urethane of any type, wear gloves!! the smallest little spec of it on your hands will manage to spread it self all over everything and anything your hands even come near !!

Thanks ahardbody

I had been looking for a place to get some of this for when I install my roof rack. Last time I needed some I got it from a windshield installer, but they don't like to sell it to just anyone.

I don't need to "glue" per say but I do need to seal a leak up.

I think this right here should work good: http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-81730-Flowable-Silicone-Windshield/dp/B000BKEBO0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1275922770&sr=8-1 and maybe this http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-81158-Black-Silicone-3-Ounce/dp/B000AL6WLA/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1275922770&sr=8-11

Thanks for help!
