H233B Rear Axle

Hello Fellow Pathy owners (of the WD21 type...).

I have a question for you, as I can't find it online, and don't have much time to go the the JY to check myself.

I need to know the width of your rear axle. That's it.

I'm eventually gonna SAS my R50, and since your 31 spline axle actually has gear sets available, it might be easier to swap my rear axle for yours. Although I know I can get some 4.56:1 gears for a D44 front, Would that be close enough for my 4.636:1 ratio? Someone told me to stay within 2% of the front to rear ratio to keep the tranny from binding, but I'm not very good at ratio's.

This all depends on your width, of course. I'm sure it's at least an inch skinnier than mine, but thats no big deal. Thanks for your help guys.

Is the bolt pattern different on the R-50 carriers? Nothing I ever looked into, but I doubt that the carrier section of the axel didn't change much between the different H233bs they made. ie, they didn't make the R-50 carrier completely different than an Xterra, Frontier or old Pathfinder. I know we can swap in 4.9s out of an Xterra axel into our WD-21s.

Well, if you can swap in 4.9's from an xterra, then they really are all the same, pretty much. I wonder if this means I can get gears from a Patrol rear axle (same good old H233B). Thanks for the help. I guess I can use the 4.56 gears on the D44 with my 4.63 gear in my H233, then ? Is that what you mean 87Pathy?

And 87pathy, how are the radius arms? I was looking at this aftermarket long arm radius arm kit made for a Wrangler, thinking about using it on the pathy for ease of install and the fact that I don't have much space to work with under this Unibody wreck of a Nissan. I hear good and bad things about radius arms. Most of the negative i hear is about only having 2 bolts holding your axle to the frame (not including the track bar, i guess, since no one has ever mentioned it).

Thanks again for your help guys.

yes the 4.56 will work with the 4.63's barely but yes.

the radius arms are OK. I would prefer and will be doing a long arm.

if you go long arm get them for a xj, wj ect (cherokee). not for a wrangler. wrong wheelbase and they won't work right.
