OldSlowReliable
So I was driving home earlier, and it felt rather odd at times, didn't quite SOUND the right way after I washed the engine, sounded quieter and smoother than it usually does, so i just went with it. But when I had to slow down and stop at some signs and lights, it was making an odd sound when making sharp turns at lock, sounded like a wheel was rubbing on something, but it was pretty fierce. Then, I get home and while putting it into P, i pause in N and i can kinda feel a rumbling, really soft, barely noticable, but it goes from nice and soft in D, but then in N it feels like something is consistently rattling, and when its in R it is VERY noticable, but not in P or D...... Kinda has me worried, the sound it makes is similar to if you put a rubber hose up against a fan, and mind you this is all while stopped with my foot on the brakes. I searched but couldn't find anything that sounded like this scenario.....
Kn0xville
funny i had a similiar sound today. Scared the crap outt me cuz it would go up and down with the rpm's... Luckily it was only a piece of rubber that fell off of something and was flapping in the fan.... Maybe see if somethings in your fan. Never know. Already checked it, cause it kinda sounded like when the drain pipe for the radiator was hitting the fan after my BL, but I checked it out, and didn't really think that would happen ONLY in reverse and slightly in N
OldSlowReliable
I should also add that it has been 'kicking' into gear for a while now, you put the shifter into D or R and it takes a sec, then lurches a bit and you feel it engage.....this has happened on the trail a few times and giving me a false 'go' resulting in me gassing it and hearing a big CLUNK of it starting to put power to the wheels
Tungsten
I'm experiencing some kicking and rumbling too but I just ignored it, have run like this for a while and it doesn't seem to affect anything. Lets see what happens when I change the transmission fluid (and transfer case and differential)... The heat shields are half assed on my engine so when I stop at the traffic light in D they rattle from time to time. Turn up that stereo! lol Edited August 3, 2009 by Tungsten
Kingman
Hmmm. After reading this it reminds me of what mine did when I floored it from a stop. For a few seconds, I would feel/hear a rumbling noise in the floorboard like something was twisting and vibrating then it would go away. When I shifted into reverse it always kicked a little, same with drive. Never did figure that out...
frecklecolouredbrain
you might have a problem with your torque converter. I heard a bad one ther other day at a stoplight that sounded like a broken blender. When the light turned green, the truck drove forward and the sound disappeared totally. gotta love ford

I dunno, its probably just something rattling, didn't QUITE sound like it was the tranny or drivetrain now..
Precise1
Maybe the tool with the Honda who diagnosed his tranny and replaced the seleniod pack could help you... B
