Audio Wiring diagram?

I went on the12volt website, and the audio wiring diagram is completely different than what is actually in my pathy! Did anybody else find this problem? and is there another accurate wiring diagram?

 

PS: I have a 89 pathy SE with a tape player

It would be easier to just buy the 10$ wire harness at walmart. That way you can always hook up the factory one again by just uncliping the harness. plus the wire colors on the new wire harness match the one on your cd player for easy hook up.

Ya I thought about that harness from canadian tire, but since the wire colours were already messed up from the12volt (which i used for all the cars in my house), I didnt think that they would be accurate there either.

Ok, so i just finished wiring everything, and everything seems to be working correctly... BUT, after playing for 5 minutes, the sound shuts off completely while the deck is still on. If i turn of my pathy and start it back up, the sound is back...

 

also, i noticed that the ground wire for the deck fell off of the screw and the deck still plays, and turns on and off...

 

is any of this normal? im completely stumped

If you have the stock deck (went and pulled my 88's out of the closet), then there is a black ground wire in the bundle comming out of the back that should provide the electrical ground. There might be a chassis ground that helps eliminate noise by grounding the case, is that what is falling off?

 

As for the sound cutting out after so many minutes, maybe there are some components that have gone bad inside the head unit.

this kinda sounds like what happen in my parents landcruiser. does the cd player get really really hot?? if it does then my guess is that to much power is going through the facotry amps and is causeing them to over heat and turn off or is making yours get hot and turn off for overheat protection. I think what i eneded up doing was no using the ground wire. Another thing to try is bypass the factory amps. it will sound alot better too! also if it is still doing it try rewiring to your speakers. Run your own wire to your speakers to see if it still cuts out. I would take the door panel off and just take the speaker out and have the wire lay out and only hook up to the front 2 speakers and test it that way. If its still cutting out i would make sure your cd player isnt a bad. hope that helps

Well, for some reason, the sound has not cut out in the past 2 days, but the deck is still not grounded.

 

I was reading somewhere on the forums that I should bypass the factory amps so i can get a full signal to my amp for my subs. But, where are these amps located in a 89 2 door? and how do i get to my rear speakers, becuase I got 6x9's that i want to swap in?

There aren't any factory amps in the pre 90s models AFAIK.

 

If there is one, it will be mounted in the rear quarter panel inside from your gas filler (behind the plastic interior cover). Here is a pic of my 88 with the panel removed; you can see my rear speaker, then an open space, then the trany ECU in the next space then 2 more empty spaces. That last empty space is where they mounted the front speaker amps in tthe later models (the rear speaker amps were mounted under/behind the radio in the dash).
