Gas Light

mine is annoying, as you can see the tank isn't "empty" yet. The light will glow in and out. And once it gets onto the E and below, it'll go steady....Annoying at night!

So I put a two gallon gas caddy in the back and drove till either a light came on or it started to sputter. Is it possible that on my 95 SE the check engine light is the gas light? Last night I was driving and the check engine light was acting like a gas light. It would go on but if I pushed in the clutch to coast, it would go off. Just like a typical gas light does when it first starts to go on. It never went on solid.

When I saw that I filled up and it took 19.7 gallons at just over 305 miles. ~15mpg :( It has not gone on since I filled up so I can only imagine that the check engine light is my gas light. I have seen "check gauges" lights used for fuel but never check engine. Any thoughts on the check engine light for fuel? Seems kinda odd to me.
