My 95 doesn't even have a block heater, and it starts fine in -30 degree weather. I use synthetic oil. My 93 has one though, although where is parked currently it can't be plugged in, but it starts fine too. The battery heater is a good idea though.

Here in the frozen crotch of NY (Rochester) I've never had any trouble starting the truck. I use Mobil1 Synthetic 5W-20 in the winter. (10W-30 in the summer) No block heater, no battery blanket. No ticking. When the gas tank is REALLY empty, sometimes it's a little slow to start, takes a couple extra cranks, but it always fires.

 

Except that time my dumb ass caught the seat belt in the door and didn't realize it and left the damn dome light on all night... :shiftyeyes:
