I was told that before I remove the timing belt and parts, that I would need a tool called an 24' Chain Wrench.

They said it is used to keep the (spelling) Harmonic Balancer Stable.

True? or what the hell is that?? lol

Harmonic balancer is the pulley attached to the crankshaft. You don't need a chain wrench. You'll need a Harmonic balancer puller, once you get the bolt loose.

How I've removed the bolt in the past:

1) Remove coil wire from Distributor ***VERY IMPORTANT***

2) Put socket with breaker bar on the bolt. Lean it up against the frame.

3) Bump the starter.

That'll crack the bolt loose to allow you to use the puller to remove the harmonic balancer. It works great. :aok:

*** You don't want the truck to start during this....just a quick bump should be enough to break that bolt loose. Then remove it manually. If you leave that coil wire on, it could be disastrous. ***

I've just used a breaker bar and thrown a screwdriver throught he cam sprocket hole and braced on the head. Of course, if you t-belt slips, it's kinda useless to try that.

man why aren't you 2 living in Texas? :D

Easiest way out side of the above mentioned ways...

Remove the 2 14mm bolts holding the starter in, slide it forward about an inch or so... Slide in a stout regular screw driver and jam it in one of the teeth on the flywheel.... reverse for torquing the crank bolt.... Much safer than bumping the starter.....

If you choose this method, be sure to lean the breaker bar on the driver's side frame rail since the engine spins clockwise.

it sure would be exciting if you got it backwards
