josh
For those members, which I hope are none, this is what happens when you neglect your transmisson. This is the magnet in the pan, that catches the metal. Id say this guy was on overtime. This transmission was shot from 3rd on. My newly rebuilt tranny is going in very soon. later Josh Edited October 16, 2007 by josh

GhostPath
I suspect the one in my 90 is going to look very much like that when I swap it out. (Mine lost 3rd and OD on the trip home from the dealer - having been just fine on test drives and the fluid looking fine as well.)

GhostPath
I have a suspicion that the dealer may have changed the fluid as a matter of course before I bought it. I don't necessarily think that they were trying to cover up anything per se, I think they just changed all the fluids so as to be able to sell it with "oil changed" as a feature. msavides
well this was the worst ive seen, first time in a pathy tranny.im sure they could be alot worse. and I hope I never see what you described. lol I am more concerned about the foul smelling black fluid that came out then the furr on the magnet. I too have seen more furr on a magnet, but the foul smelling black Auto transmission fluid, That indicates Impending DOOM. Mark

Floonster
What sort of 'self service' can a guy do with minimal experience with autos. Just drain and change the fluid?? Is there not a filter anywhere (presumably inside?) that needs changing or is the magnet all you get? Bare with me and be gentle, I am on my first import. josh
The transmission the furry magnet and black fluid came out of is going to the scrap yard. I have a freshly rebuilt tranny going in, just got it all up in today.
