Hey guys Im up to my elbows with complete ball joint replacement. My trucks front end is in pieces and Im stuck. I removed the spindle and ball joints. I put the new ball joints in the upper and lower CA's. I muscled the spindle in place and tried to tighten the lower ball joint tensioner and the rod inside the ball joint just spins with the nut. How do I tighten it down? Its getting dark and I have to be to work in the morning. Thanks for any quick responses..

i found that airtools work wonders on that...I had the same issue...this is prob ill advised but you can push the boot up and clamp a vice grip to the shaft and tighten...or press (hitting may work but I couldnt get it to work) the top of it to seat the tapered shaft into the spindle so that it wont spin anymore...they make special presses for removing and installing ball joints but a standard C vice should work...

 

 

I wouldnt follow the vice grip advice but it worked for me in a jamb but is a bad idea esp if u tear the boot...

Thanks for the advice. I had to leave it till yesterday to finish. Putting the jack beneath the lowers did the trick... Apparently there wasnt enough force on the ball joint to grip enough.. Just got back from Tire Kingdom for alignment. 3 hrs later and 2 techs to do it. Thanks again..
