Shifting 'grumble'

Hey guys,

I noticed, since i got my pathy(92,V6, 5spd), that when i shift into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th that i can hear a very low 'grumble like' sound when i hit the gas hard after the shift.

It kinda hesitates for a second after the shift, when it 'growls'.

When i'm at around 3k rpms, the engine sounds fine, and has lots of power.

I shift around 2200 rpms. Am I shifting to low? I'm thinking its just my driving... hopefully.

Or is something really bad going to happen soon? :ohno01:

thanks.

In a word....yes. These small V6 engines pulling 4000lbs of weight around need to be revved a bit. The owners manual even states to shift around 3K RPMS. Do that, and you'll be fine. You won't waste much more gas either, because the engine won't have to work nearly as hard to maintain speed and/or accelerate as it has to when you shift at 2200RPMS.

Have you filled the tranny up past the fill hole like it needs to be?

I never really thought of that 88.

When i bought the truck it was serviced, and all the fluids had been checked off on the written report.

I guess i'll climb under and give it a look. thanks 88. informative, as usual.

and i guess ill drive it a bit 'harder' and see what happens.. thanks simon.

thanks again guys.
