So the only "performance" upgrades I can do on my 94 xe is headers, exhaust, and an air filter that may or may not add a couple hp??? Oh and a chip that may or may not add a couple hp??? What's the deal? Am I just not looking in the right places?

you can do just about any upgrade to it that you can do to any other engine.

 

computer, exhaust, intake, cam, bore it out, larger injectors.. etc

 

What else can you do besides replace the engine?

There are no "chips" per se, you have to send in your ECU to be re-chipped. The ROM with all the data on it is soldered to the motherboard inside.

normal n/a bolt ons are the cheapest and easiest to do.

How powerful do you really need it to be? Intake and exhaust will make a big difference, I'm @ 5500 ft. and I have plenty of power to do what it needs to do. If you wanted something fast, you shoulda bought a sports car.

Whattaya mean, that's all you can do? It's an engine. With all the options of any engine. You can port it, polish it, bore it, stroke it, cam it, supercharge it, turbocharge it, nitrous inject it, install 4 valve heads, reproduce it in billet aluminum and titanium, swap in a V8, run it on nitromethane if you want....
