cant get my system working

i recently bought a pathfinder and yesterday i hooked up the system that was in my bimmer. ive never done this before but i understand how to do it. i got my kenwood headunit working then i worked on my amp, i connected the remote, ground and power wires and got power to my amp. i connected the RCA from my headunit to the amp and connected my speakerwire to the sub. i canot get the sub to play any bass. ive tried switching two amps and two sets of subs in there and neither worked. anything i could be doing wrong or anything i have to adjust on my kenwood headunit? thanks

im pretty sure this has to be the headunit. anyone know if theres anything i have to do to it to get a signal through the RCA? its a kenwood. thanks

Hey, I had a similar problem when I accidently touched the 2 RCA ends together....blew the sub outputs on the kenwood. I Ended up getting a new stereo, if yours are hooked up they should work.

Pretty straight forward install. You might wanna check the rca.

Disconnect it from the back of the deck while the deck is still on(so the amp still has remote power) and the amp and touch the tip with your finger and you should hear a faint buzzing sound or you can tap the end with your finger and hear a thud on the subs if nothing happens check the speaker by touching the positive and negative wires to a 3A battery,hold the ground side permanetly and tap the positive wire to positive side of the battery and it should pop everytime you tap that positive wire to the positive terminal of the battery.

 

 

hope its just a bad rca.Its cheaper to replace those than a deck

just a shot in the dark...you some how didnt accidently flip the settings on the amp or change the gain to zero?

 

the funniest story i have about that is my rommate that "knows" stereo equipment couldnt get my 8's to kick bass (b/c i told him they werent for bass) well he put them both on the ground and stuck his head between it...while the volume was very very loud but the amp was set towards the bass only and he flipped it to midrange...i've never seen him jump so high in the air...he then jumped in his car and proceeded to pout for the next half hr and blamed it on me...i just laughed my ass off for about an hr or so...

 

i may not know the "dos and donts" of car stereo's but i have installed endless radio's and havent blown anything...i did have 1 head unit go bad but my uncle used it for about 3 years and then i used it for about 5 so i figured it was about time for it to die..it would just randomly power off and on so i replaced it...

thanks for the input. i tried different RCA and subs so im banking on the headunit. il see if i can put in a friends tomorow just to make sure

The amp IS turning on, isn't it?

Are you sure you have the RCAs in the proper output?

 

It's also possible that there is an option to turn off the signal to the subwoofer. This will still allow the amp to turn on, but not provide any sound to the sub. Check through the menus and see if the Subwoofer is turned on at the head unit.

Okay...I assume you wired your deck using a wire harness, that hooks into the one in the dash, and you then spliced that into the Kenwood Harness for your deck?

 

If so, the issue is this; stock amplifiers. They'd need to be bypassed in order to allow your volume to go high enough from your Kenwood headunit to put enough juice through the RCA's to have sound out of the sub. It's probably working, just at VERY low volume. Chances are, turning the volume knob on the Kenwood unit very slowly increases volume quickly....

 

If you bypassed the stock amps, then your issue could be any of the ones mentioned above.
