Gripenfelter
Service Engine Soon light came on today. My guess is its just a loose gas cap but I want to make sure. How can I check the code?
NismoSkyZ
The easiest way is to simply go to autozone and get it check there for free. They will tell you what the code is, and usually what it means. They can even clear it for you.
Gripenfelter
We don't have an autozone in Canada. What scan tool do they use?
NismoSkyZ
They use an OBDII scanner, they are quite costly. You don't have anything like an autozone or possibly an advanced auto? If you can't do that, just take it to your mechanic and he'll check it out.
nissandoms47
or unplug the battery, tighten the gas cap and plug the battery back in after an hour or so. or you can put the ecu into diagnostics mode and read the code that way.
lewisnc100
or you can put the ecu into diagnostics mode and read the code that way. Unfortunately 2000 was the last year with the diagnostic selector screw on the ECU.
Gripenfelter
Are there any online diagnostic programs you can download? I have the OBD I and OBD II cables with the proper adapter to connect them to the USB port on my laptop. I normally use them for flashing PCMs on Camaros and Firebirds.
