Junkyard shopping today.

weather was kinda nice this morning so I decided to head to the local junkyard and picked up a few parts for the weekend project

 

I was lucky enough to pick up the parts that I need without having to tear up a bunch of components.

 

CV axle- By the way according to napa it doesnt matter if its left or right side and theyre exactly the same

I was going to get the other side too but somebody else already tried to take the allen screw out and strip the one allen bolt.I shouldve brought my hack saw

 

UCA'S- Had it pressed out at a shop here and only charged me $10. They used a bearing press and that spindle popped right out.

 

2 Tranny cooler- I just happen to walk by a couple of explorer and there it was.

 

Distributor off of a 1991 hardbody- Not sure if this would work on my 93 tho

 

Shifter from a 87 Pathy to replace my 4X4 shifter for the BL.. Unsure about this one also but ill check on 88's post on this.

 

 

One thing I learned is never head out to a junkyard without a breaker bar. It sure made it a heck of a lot easier taking those bolts out. The bolts holding the UCA came right off but the 12 point 12MM bolt for the CV gave me a bit of a problem coz I had to use a vice grip and a pipe wrench to hold it in place while I break those bolts loose.Theres no tranny anymore to lock it in place.Impact wrench cant break it loose

 

I also noticed that when I pulled the bolts on the UCA they shimmed it with washers behind it which I think is better than the way my pathy is shimmed right not which is just a bunch of thin aluminum shimmed between the frame and top part of the UCA. When I get it aligned Im going to tell them to shim it using washers that way if those bolts become loose those shims doesnt fall off.

Just found that out on stats body lift how to Couldnt find any HB at the junkyard with the tranny still intact tho.

far be it from me to suggest african american engineering to other people, but I cut my floor out as far as I could without having to cut the console then slid a piece of pipe over the lever and bent it forward, it works fine. I also made a new cover for under the shifter boot out of some rubberized material.

Thats what Im going to have to Did you pull the shifter out and put it on a vice to bend it or you just bent them mounted in there?

theres 6 at the u pull it here i can search for a shifter on sat am when i go if u'd like...or u can rig it up...just let me know cuze they just set 2 new pathys and 2 hbs this week...so hopefully it hastn been completely hacked by sat am...

well if there is 1 i'll grab it...if u dont want it i'll hang on till i do my BL once i get ole whittie back up and running at full balls and shes beggin for more lift...it shouldnt be more than like $6

 

 

i think its funny...every1 wants short throws and we're all throwing longer shifters in...that increase the travel...but i guess its the price u pay for lift...unless u figure out a complex system of linkage to shorten it up maybe a 4 bar system

C is right ..For the spindles I just wanna get everything ready and mounted on my other UCA when I do the swap. I just dont wanna mess removing the spindles when Im ready to install the calminis. Take the factoey one off and bolt the calminis on :cool2:

I left it installed, it bends rather easily, and you don't have to bend it much.

Fair enough, I'd have probably just left them and taken the spindles, but that's just me. Now you'll have 2 sets of stock UCA's filling your trash can. But at the same time, I totally feel you. Screwing around with those (more specifically, the busings) took way more time than the actual removal and reinstall. That was seriously irritating. Good luck!

Im ambisiously lazy.... I have considered having the spindles machined on the ends, with a .010" hole going down the center to grease the spindle to bushing area....

No I havent yet but Im having second thoughts on the calminis. Im not the most practical person when it comes to stuff like this
