how do you pop the 3 bolts out in the strut top plate?

I think they're welded on. If that's true, you'll need to grind them off and drill out the hole.

They come out fairly easy. Open up your vise just wide enough for the head to drop thru and set the plat on top and give it a couple of good blows with a 2lb sledge. Worked great for me.

I took mine to a gas station mechanic and he used and air gun an popped all six out in a matter of seconds. They came out very clean (no rough edges) too.

how do you use an air gun to get the stud out? haha maybe an air hammer you mean? an air impack will take the nut off... ok ill resort to the BFH tomorrow.. hope i dont miss and break somethin else

use a press and a piece of 4x4 wood and a 24 mm socket. put the socket on the lower side (the side opposite of the threads) but 4x4 wood under that and then press the stud out with the press on the threaded side... you only need about 8000 lbs. at least mine did.

 

a hammer will just bend the mount i would think.

I would bet the tool OBX is referring to is an air hammer. I had to use one to get the pinion gear out of the housing once when nothing else would work...took the thing right out without damaging it.

yeah we were regearing my friends jeep, tried a BFH on the old pinion, just smooshed the threads, then we tried an air hammer and then understood why there was that little tiny hole in the middle on the pinion.
