Ok guys after running a test on my 93 oathy I found out that the 02 sensor isnt working properly or not at all anymore.

What brand do you guys recommend. Im looking at some NTK made by NGK.

A bosch maybe or should I get OEM?

In the pic it showed 2 wires.

i too am wondering which brands are good. in the last thread where o2 sensors came up, i hear that it doesn't really matter, just make sure you know if you're replacing a four or three-wire o2 sensor...and quite frankly, i don't even know which of those i have =P i just wanted to replace them before they go out as preventative measures.

I guess I better check how many wires I have :D

I was reading up on bosch website too. If I find a good priced one on ebay ill buy it. That NTK above is only $40 and I checked on some other site it cost $109. :aok:

weups, yea 88's right. 2 or 3. they sell o2 sensors on ebay for pretty cheap (around $18 US each)...but i guess that's not a good option if you want to replace the sensor ASAP

Waiting for a few days isnt so bad if you can save atleast $50.

My sensor is probably bad for a long time. I just had the chance to check it this morning.

Are you getting an check engine light? Wondering how you know O2 sensor is gone and which one it is.

Entered on mode 1 and the led has a real faint blink

I think my O2 sensor is gone too. My check engine light doesn't work, so I wouldn't be able to run any diagnostics, so I don't know for sure. Basically, everything else is new and I get a lot of hesitation and coughing when I accelerate. It is steadily getting worse, so I should prolly do something soon, eh?

Oh, I also get about 12 MPG. Just got back from a road trip and had a message to call Mastercard Security department. Turns out that stopping for gas 3 times in 500KM and 5 hours is suspicious activity. Go figure.

Update: Last night I went on Ebay and bought one from http://stores.ebay.com/GLOBAL-AUTOMOTIVE

This guy's got over 10,000 feedback, 99.4% positive. Been a long time since I hung out on Ebay, but MAN that's a lot of happy customers.

Anyhow, I ordered myself a sensor for $28 US. After confirming that he does not use UPS (OOoooooh I hate UPS) I ordered one. Shipping works out to $7 USD. After all is said and done, it worked out to $40 something.

Seeing as how the cheapest local price I got was $99 CDN, I will wait the week or so that it takes to get here from Florida.

I will post an update on my success.

The LED's on the ECU will flash the error codes for you. The check engine light isn't the way to do it, it flashes with both the green and the red LED anyway.

My 1990 still has the ORIGINAL 02 sensor far as I can tell and I am sure it needs to be replaced. Truck runs fine, but to see if it made any difference I unplugged the sensor in the engine compartment also and if anything it ran just a tiny bit better but hard to tell. It doesnt hesitate at all (plugged in or not) and gas mileage seems fine. Just put new 275/65 A/T tires on and she will spin them on the asphalt :)

My ECU has a bad knock sensor code flashing and since it runs great still, I was told to just leave it be rather than spend a $1000.00 to have a mechanic fix it (since nissan was stupid enough to put the damn thing under the intake manifold rather than on the sides of the engine block like other manufacturers do)

I think I will look into the EBAY thing also for the 02 sensor since locally they are 100 bucks. Bosch is pretty much the leader in that part.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sweeeeet, finally got that sensor only 16 days after I got it. I am a cheap bass-turd, so it was worth the wait. I just hope I can get a normal mileage now. This morning I put in about 48 liters with about 260km on the odometer.

I hope to have it in tonight, then post back in a few weeks with an update.

They're either 2-wire or 3-wire. The one in the pic above is a 3-wire. Bosch is supposed to be the best, NGK would be another good one, beyond that I dunno.

You might check out my prior post about the Bosch and Borg-Warner O2's that I have used...

Ahh I'll just quote it here :aok:

From The Garage cleaning O2 sensor, how too?

and FYI for VG30i owners...

VG30i (TBI) Oxygen Sensors:

BORG-WARNER Part# OS1170

and Bosch Part# 15207

are the EXACT same thing.. and by exact I mean they are the same part in a different box!

sspx0354wl5.th.jpg

sspx0355yj3.th.jpg

Every identifying code, shrink wrap, the color tone of the wires, even the protective sheathing is the same.

They both say NTK on them and as noted every ID code on it is the same, they are the same sensors.

Now this applies to the TBI'ed (VG30i) Pathys, but may apply to the MPI's (VG30e) too
