strykeone
Today I took my pathy out for a drive, and I wasn't getting any heat, and she was overheating. I brought it back home and noticed a belt on the ground. It was my alternator belt... There was coolant in the reservoir, it was steaming out. Thanks in advance. 87 4x4, 3.0L
strykeone
Upon closer inspection I see that the alternator belt connects to the fan, and another pulley... so these problems are linked or I have one hell of a coincedence on my hands. In any case will I be able to replace the belt with minimal tools? Or should I just take her in?
89_trailboss
replacing a belt is easy. hardest part is getting the belt over the fan.
RedPath88
12mm socket w/Rachect... maybe an extention and a 12mm wrench will do it... or was the size 14mm? Either way, it's a simple job
strykeone
Fair enough, I'm on my way to the store right now.
radar
Since the fan belt is also turning the waterpump it is probably the most important one, the biggest pain on my 99 is that it is the rearmost of the three belts and the tensioner is a PITA to turn. unccpathfinder
12mm is correct... loosen the top 2 bolts on the alt...loosen the 1 on the bottom front of the alt then run down the tensioner screw get the belt over the fan and on then tighten the tension bolt and the other 3 and ure done...
