newbie steering shake problem..

New member,thanks ahead of time for any help..My 1997 2wd pathy finally has something wrong!!Most reliable truck i have ever owned.. My steering wheel shakes bad at 55mph..worse faster..Happened kind of "Overnight" I had the 31 bfg"s balanced on a Calabrated machine twice in 2 days and it persists.. My Guy said something about "Steering Box" link vibrating..need help bad leaving tommorrow for LONG trip..

Tried rotating the tires front to back? That doesn't usually just happen overnight for no reason.

I had the some vibration between 40, and 50. Got new tires and it helped a bit, but what the link says is what fixed mine.

 

Have you experienced any front end play when you go over bumps? If so it could also be your tie rod ends getting loose. That is what my problem was.

it can also be bj or something like that up front.. get under your truck and look. if nothing, then lift it and see if anything is loose.

it can be:

 

• Tires - flat spots or sidewall bubbles
  
• Wheels - Bent rims (out of round) or out of balance
  
• Loose wheel bearings. When was the last time you repacked them?
  

 

there's more, but those are the 1st things I would try and diagnose. Try rotating the wheels and see if that has an effect.
