89 pathfinder SE V6 auto 276 xxx km

its getting colder up here and my pathy seems to idle alittle rough. almost a miss.

and my truck runs rich. in park or neutral, give abit of gas, you vet a GOOD wiff of gas. and all my friends that follow behind me say that they smell gas.(there is no leak, jsut the unburnt gas smell). and I get @!*%Y milage. best ever was 280 miles to a tank. I dont drive crazy, but I dont have a problem keeping up with traffic either.

My dad had the truck for bout 4 years before I got it. and we both dont ever remember replacing the O2 sensor. parts store wanted 250+ IIRC. anyone ever use universal O2's? there much cheaper.

I also dont have afew things on my truck. cat, EGR, AB valve.

also, PCV valve. we have never replaced it.

anyone have any opions on what I should look into for milage purposes.

First thing that comes to mind is the O2... I have had two in my truck since I bought it, neither of them were universal. so I am not sure.

A direct replacement from www.oxygensensors.com is $99.90USD (I got my second one there)

*Not sure if they ship to Canada

Also change that PCV valve, they cost under $10. When I bought my truck it's PCV valve was completely clogged

i agree, o2 sensor. and sparkplugs.com has em for a dollar cheaper that oxygensensors.com :P If your o2 has been bad for a while, might wanna consider a new cat too. Scratch the cat thing, just re-read your post.

it's worthwhile to shop around for O2 sensor.. i paid somwhere around $40 a couple of years ago.

i'd run the ecu codes and see if anything pops up... garage --> how to

miss could be all kinds of thing.. start with the basic tune-up.. plugs, wires, rotor, etc... heck it could be just a loose boot on a plug..

the rich condition is probably the 02.. that's the only time i recall mine ever running rich.. clean the throttle body too while you're at it. btw. those aren't terrible mpgs at all.. not the best but not completely out of range for these trucks.. that's all i ever get out of mine and i am all tuned up.

Some of the "Direct Replacements" (cost about the same) are three wire... in that case you simply jumper/splice the single wire connector on the truck to the middle wire in the three pin connector.

However, I did see one truck in a wrecking yard where the wire was not spliced. Not sure if it worked properly, but it may have.

My first replacement was of the three wire sort. I had a shop do it becasue it cost only $5 or $10 more for them to get the part and install it than it would have cost me for the part (from the dealer). My second, I bought and replaced myself, it was a four wire unit.

280 Miles to a tank? Man, IF i do ALL highway, I can get maybe 320 - 340. And that's with mods out the a$$. Jim Wolf POP charger, new engine, Headers, high flow cat and new o2 sensors, borla exhaust, electric fan, synthetic oil.

These trucks weren't made to get 20+ miles a gallon.

Sorry this reply wasn't really helpful. I just got done taking a midterm and I'm beat to SH!T.

Two bucks says your EGR passage(and perhaps the PCV passage as well) inside the intake directly under the throttlebody is completely clogged with hardened carbon and junk...both my 88 and my 89 were almost exactly the same. No flow whatsoever, no EGR function, and who knows whether that may be contributing to your problem or not...
