Sup all! Been a while... Not sure where to post this so I’ll try 2 forums..

 

Anyhow,

 

I took the top timing cover off, pulled the pulley from the bottom to free up the bottom cover and I'm wondering; Is it possible to get the pump out and a new one in without taking the timing Belt off. :confused:

 

I just replaced the timing belt about 400 miles ago and had a reconditioned Water pump on it while I was at it.. Ya I know big mistake, its blowing water out the seep hole like a whale. I had this done at the shop since the belt broke and I had to replace quite a few valves. So, I had the Heads redone while I was at it.

 

And how about the Chilton book on this issue :furious: .. Water pump removal in Chilton’s book for a 3.0 includes draining the system, removing the outer belts (AC and so on), then removing old pump and reinstall new one.. What a crock!

 

How about Reality, which is removing the entire outer Skelton of the front of the motor and possibly the timing belt....

 

Appreciate the help ahead of time crew. It will be down for at least 1 more day since Thursday is when my new fan blade arrives from Rock Auto.

 

One more quick Q, do I need to use gasket sealer along with the gasket? I use the Black.

 

I think I’m gonna change out the water inlet gasket and replace the thermostat while I’m in this deep.

Guess you learned the hard wat not to use a reconditioned water pump.

 

Might as well put all new in when you open it up, to save opening it up again in the near future.

There is nothing wrong with a rebuilt pump. Just depends on the quality.

I personally have always purchased rebuilt pumps. (generally)

 

Number 1 reason for water pumps going bad after install is over tension of teh pulley.
