  1. Its been a long times guys, But i have a problem with my rear brakes, mainly the pins that hold the shoes to the housing (they are calling them anti-rattle pins). so far all the pin that I have purchased have been too short. I have cleaned all the rust around the outside and inside the brake housing and even cut down the spring but I very have enough room to get the retainer clips on. I have never had problem installing brakes on a rear of a vehicle but this one is a mother, any suggests? Do they make a special pin that I dont know about. the shoes are stock 2.25" wide and the pins are about 1.75" long (from bevel to front side of the catch).
  2. As it stands right now it was the ignition module. It fired right up and ran with out a problem! All I have to do now is to replace the wrinkled muffler, blown Y-pipe gasket, and the Cat and I'm finished with this problem! -bounce- -alcohol- Thanks for all your help on this matter! Michael
  3. I kind of ruled out the fuel filter because you can smell plenty of raw fuel in the throttlebody. I will how ever look at the battery cables.. They guys at work think that aaron is in the right area; they think it could be the ignition module. I have never seen a backfire as bad as the one that put me on the side of the road. It lit up the street that I was on and I was sure that cops were going to come arrest me for firing off a gun in a residental neighborhood or I was going to hear someone return fire... All I can say is thank god for good friends and buying that recovery stap that I got for $19.00 from 4 wheel parts a year ago. Thanks for the ideas, I'll let you all know how it turns out. Mike
  4. oops my pathy is a 87 v6 and only 91000 miles on it and just changed the spark plugs about three or four months ago (less than 3,000 miles on them) HELP!!!
  5. Okay long time, no talk to... We guys and gals, Its finally happen! I got a girlfriend and my pathfinder got jealous and quit running! It all started Wednesday night after work I noticed that the Tach intermittently would stop working. Thursday I drove it to work and then to bowling everything was find. Friday night after I got on the interstate to come home and the old girl backfired (sounded like a cannon going off) and then stumble on herself and then took off running again all at 65 - 70 mph. I got five miles down the road she didn't again and this time I notice a big rusty color smoke when she backfire, I was also to my exit and she did it again and this time she quit running altogether I was in the hammer lane trying to get over with Semi's all around I made it off the interstate on to the ramp. She wouldn't refire but would crank over. I wiggle the ecu\ecm (computer) wire and got to run.. She ran fine the rest of the way home. When I got home I looked under the pathfinder to see if anything was wrong with the exhaust system besides the y-pipe leaking. I notice that the muffler looked like it semi bent in half on the topside. Well I went out of town to visit my g\f in St. Louis in the Xtreme when I got back into and had to leave for bowling I took the pathfinder and she was running okay, she stumble a couple of time at the stop light but nothing really bad. After bowling I got a mile from the bowling alley and she stumble and backfire once again and died. Luckily I was only a couple streets down from my buddy house and they were coming out the street. We towed it to he house "thank god it was a jeep doing the pulling but a great GM Product." My question is: is it the timing belt finally gave up the ghost or could it be a plugged exhaust system... I'm leaning towards a timing belt because after the three major backfires there should be a blockage in the exhaust system. Any help would be great... Michael
  6. Hey Pickle, You're right the midwest(Illinois). I know what you mean about finding shows for trucks and 4x4s. It was harder than heck to get the other car club members to put those two classes in our show this year... All they want to do is top 20 shows. They all about died when myself and other member planned this weekend show and made it a judged show. They said that it would take too long and it wouldn't work. We judged all the vehicles and had all the trophies handed out before the scheduled ending time. I just wish that more 4x4's would have showed up along with the mini-truck and ricers. Well you know that you could get some of your west coast Nopra members and put a show on. Its not that hard to do. "if you build it they will come." Last weekend and this weekends show we had a guy come down to our show from Chicago which was a 150 mile drive, he had a 1950's willy's. I about fell out when I saw that on the reg form. After talking to him, I found out that he stored the truck down at his mother's house and drove back and forth every weekend to show the truck. We also had a guy from Michigan to show up which was at least 200 miles drive in a 65 Impala. And this show was just a little 2 horse town show. It might be just a midwest thing. There a show in Eugene that I would like to see that a local rod shop puts on but it seems that I never plan my vacation at the right time. I always missed it by a week of so. Michael
  7. Well I just downloaded some pictures from our show last weekend and it was a great weekend to have a show and a cruise. I got into trouble with my 4x4 club because I showed up with lowlife truck (didn't think that they would show up and I normally show the Xtreme), So I Drove home (a whole 7 miles one way) to get the Pathy and everybody was happy then... My Car Club was happy that I showed up with the Xtreme and 4x4 club was happy that I enter the Pathy and we got the club trophy because of that. Once again a pathy owner helping out a bunch of sheep.. That Night I took my Xtreme to work which was only half mile from the park where we were holding the show the next day and had one of the workers drive me home.. The next day I drove the pathy over to the park and then went and got the xtreme. All before 800am. That was the easy part, I won't tell you what I went thru to get both trucks home but it wasn't that easy because of the Holiday and work closing early and closed on that Monday. Not too many 4x4s showed up but we have two that were great... One belong to my buddy I guess you can call him that. He has a chevy fullsize with a monster lift on it, I think that he said that it had a 12" lift on it another 6" on the body and I can't remember what size tires he running on it but its a beast.. Another buddy from lower side of town came and he couldn't find a place to park so we parked him under my buddy's Chevy. The second one is a guy from a town 45 miles west of here and this truck was awesome... Nissan Hardbody with a chevy v-8 blown and many more extra (too many to list) To bad its not a trail rig all that power and lift just to drive on the street. Here link for picture of the two vehicles from the show.. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/737146/7 Lets see what this Saturday brings.. We are putting on another show for a little town Celebration... I'll be glad when we slow down so I can work on the pathy a little... She just turn over 90,000 miles yesterday and I did a little tune up on her and you know after 90,000 miles the plugs, cap and rotor still didn't really need to be changed. Michael
  8. great Pictures, Mr. pickle. Now I can't wait to get back out to the Northwest this July... Michael
  9. Hey Earth1, let me know how it goes... I'm going to be doing one here in the next couple of weeks or so. First time for me also doing some this big... Good Luck and make sure you get pictures to share with all of us..
  10. sounds pretty cool, take plenty of pictures and let us know how it goes... Welcome to board...
  11. sign me up for 2 med. black and gray, when you start ordering. No doubt charge a little extra and give it to Mr Jim. He's put enough into this, its our turn to help out a little.
  12. bernard, Pretty cool looking... After its get 88's seal of approval and I get my suspension lift.. I'll be game for one... Great Job...
  13. Mudslinger, I think that 88 is trying to say is this: if you are wanting to go with 15x10 rc Rims(wheels) the backspacing should be netrual backspacing or 5.5. Right 88! Back spacing doesn't refer to the tire itself but refer to where the center part the rim set inside the rim itself.. too little could cause the wheel to set out too far out and too much could cause the rim to sit too much in the fenderwell causing the tire to rub the fenderwell when you turn (I hope that I got this one right, sometimes I get this backwards).. just incase I screwed up here a link to backspacing: http://www.high-impact.net/wheels/backspac...llustration.htm I hate to use this one because its from a sheep site but here is another one: http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/backspac.html As for Tires 32x10.5x15 means that the tire is 32" tall, 10.5" wide and fits a 15 Rim (wheel). If it was me and this is what I'm looking for is a 32x10.5x15 to go on a 15x8 with a backspacing of appox 4"
  14. Welcome disturbed1 , Don't worry about the dumb Questions on this board. I think that I corner the market on that here on this board.. in the past six months I have learn more about my Pathfinder than I have after four year of owning my xtreme..
  15. Welcome aboard thndrwhls, Like Precise said that a great find, I was lucky to find my 87se with only 65,000 mile two years old; now has 86,000 which I purchased from my cousin. For great mod ideas and fixes you came to the right place. Good Luck and happy 4wheelin' LM
  16. Driving one of those rigs would make rush hour traffic very interesting..
  17. My Buddy at Napa just got one and loves it and he's a BIG Chevy Fan... Like I Said: lol I would be curious to know the build dates on these vehicles... It might go back to something that my dad told about buying a car; never buy a car that was built on Monday or Friday and never buy that car on Monday or Friday. He was a travel Sales Rep for about 30 years and put about a 100,000 miles on his vehicles every year and a half and every car that his company brought for him that was built on Monday or a Friday had nothing but problems (mainly his ford ltd and chrysler Lebaron). I agree Gm and American Auto makers are killing themselves. GM had the chance to have some very car back in the late 80's like banshee <sp> it was to take the place for the firebird but they said that the american public wasn't ready for a vehicle like this and then Ford came out with the Taurus and it radical design but GM kept building boxes. and then the Japan vehicle came in an kicked there butts. And to be honest, I would be hard press to buy another Gm Vehicle for two reasons: 1. My Pathfinder really impressed me (only complaint lack of Power; use to my xtreme 4.3L w/ about 200hp). 2. GM pissed me off when they discontinue the s-series and went to that piece of junk 5 cylinder engine in the colorado. 3. They messed up the look of the fullsize truck(but heard from a saleman in my car club that gm is going change it again because of all the complaints (at least the GMC doesn'y look that bad). But that just my .02.
  18. Welcome aboard sludge, from a fellow chevy owner that found his own path in a Pathfinder. My chevy is just a street pounder so I got my pathy for that...
  19. I hate to say that you are very wrong about GM Products. They are one of the best company that you could get a vehicle from. Power, comfort, ride, and very reliable. But I will say that they need to fire their vehicle designers. My last three vehicles were Chevrolet Truck. my first was a 85 with 85,000 mile and ran great, burned no oil, and no rust until my g/f got T-boned on a county road. a Lady hit the truck with a thunderbird at 55 mph. Insurance Co totaled the truck. next truck was a 89; she had over 140,000 miles on an iron duke 2.5l and this one didn't burned no oil. a little rust here and there 11yrs of every day driving in Illinois weather. Current vehicle 2001 Xtreme awesome truck just 28,000 still breaking her in.. My dad has two chevy van. 1985 Astro 280,000 miles and full-size with 190,000 miles. when the astro only has about 150,000 we would drive it to Eugene, Or. every summer to see my brother... along the 2500 mile trip out not one gm on the side of the countless fords, dodges, and riceburners Even up in the mountains. That van was retire to being my dad work van and fullsize van is the vehicle of choice. The only complaint that I have with this van is that the suspension is too soft and rolls in the turn alot but on the flipside its a VERY comfortable ride. Grandma farm truck 1962 Chevrolet straight 6, three tree, and wooden bed deck was still running as of 1996, uncle screwed it up and blew the motor and sold it to the junk yard. Dumb @$$... I think that the worst vehicle out there is the dodge truck. We have\had a couple dodge vehicles and they are\were nothing but problems and rode like a rack wagon but the three gmc were retired after 12 years as service/ salt spreader/plow trucks and cost us less in repairs. We have a fleet on dodge b350 and caravan and we are consistently fixing problems on them. Don't get me wrong I love my Pathy but you can't go that wrong with a GM vehicle. Every company has here problems that why you have warranties... This true, its the only vehicle that will last more than one owner. I have seen too many fords, dodge and jeeps in the junk yard after the first owner.. Why do you think that Ford is number one is sales because you have to replace it after a year of two.. I will agree this vehicle sucks -->straight 6 what were they thinking! They should have kept the 4.3l v-6 (great engine) or put a 327 in it but not a straight 6.
  20. Do you have access to a set of Gear ratchets & sockets (Made by Gear Wrench).. These rackets are thin built and the socket is open at the end that goes thru the ratchet. It was design for those extra long bolts that a deepwell socket couldn't get.. Its a very hardy ratchet set, I haven't found a bolt yet that I couldn't get off with it. I have all most gave up on using my Slip & Kills Ratchet set I think a complete set of metric 4mm-19mmand standard 9/32-11/16 <can't remember the set size> runs about 50-60 dollars but worth the price. You might be able to get this ratchet in there...
  21. Yes, Mzxtreme, I played too hard down on the farm. -alcohol- I should have ran the darn dog over.. just kidding, love that dog to death, that why I stopped and let him in (big mistake interior is dirty now).. I knew that I had to be stop to shift it down to 4L. Learned that in my service truck plowing snow 18 year ago.. lol but with those truck you had to push it over to the right and then down.. lol You'll have to come down sometime and play in the mud with me if you don't mind not having the finer things in life like a indoor plumbing. :allclean:
  22. Duh!!! Don't I feel foolish, went outside and started the truck up and she went right into 4L... Thanks Bernard that was an easy fix.
  23. Okay I tried putting the Pathy in 4L to get out of the muddy lane this weekend and it wouldn't go it 4L. The Pathy is a 5 spd and I had it in netrual and tried to shift it in and no go, I tried rocking it back and fore and no go, and I even tried to shift it while moving in 1st gear and still no go... Not only won't she go into 4L I couldn't get her to shift the transfer case into netrual! I climbed under her today and couldn't see anything wrong with the linkage or brackets. does anyone have any idea what the problem is or could be?
  24. Dealership, Junkyard.. maybe Napa, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc might have these. take the broken one in with ya to match up. Headlight bulb retainer ring is what its called (at lease that is what I call it) Good Luck
