  1. Everything is back together now. Even switched tires and rims from the flooded '92. They look good but need a wash.

I've encountered a problem. The front wheels do not engage in 4wd. 4wd Light does come on but tires won't spin in mud. There is no irregular noises, but afraid to drive knowing something not quite right. I will take the hubs off the '92 to see if I can figure out what I put in backwards. If anyone knows what to look for first please holler. What is easiest way to check 4wd. I have two jack stands and a hydraulic jack. i may go get another set of jack stands and try to test 4wd on the carport. Cleaner.

Again thanks for your help guys.

  2. On the bearings, take a large glob of wheel bearing grease and plop it into your open palm.

    :D:D:D:D

I don't know why I have so much trouble getting the wife to help me!

Anyway she's back together now. Had to socialize with some folks who invited us for dinner.

All that left now is to replace the old pads. Hopefully we will get some rain tonight for the test drive!

  3. Got the rotors about to go to work. I want to hit all the grease fittings on the front end with a shot of grease. Do I just give it half a crank (sorry Mods didn't know you can't say c_o_c_k_) on the grease gun. Do I need to worry about overfill or damaging any grease seals?

  4. Going well so far. rotors are off, wiped all old grease pretty good. Brakes were almost gone so took rotors to tire kingdom to have turned. Kids were with me so we walked next door to Sonic got some shakes. 45min go by not ready. He did say they had enough meat so didn't need new ones. drove to Advanced Auto picked up some pads. Now I'm back at TK again wait another 30min. 2hrs since they were dropped I ask how long. He say "TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH we are having trouble with the machine. It will be another 90min.

I agreed to come back in the AM. Didn't want to wait for another excuse. I can't stand people who start the sentence saying "To Tell You The Truth". I immediately question their sincerity.

Hopefully they open at 7am tommorow I can get them back and not forget how I took it all apart. I might be posting tommorow if i have any probs.

BTW. I have never greased bearings in my life. If it weren't for the How-to's on this board and all the helping hands I be paying Tire Kingdom $300+ to do it for me. I should be saving close to $200 bucks. Thanks guys, who do I write the check to?

  5. When I work late like tonight I treat myself to a pint of Heineken. Makes the 1/2 hour trip home more tollerable! 20 more minutes!

Usually just Bud lite, b/c it's all I can afford on straight time!

  6. You can use either Jeep Grand Cherokee front coil springs(I6 or V8, AWD, from 1992-1997)

There's a pretty extensive how to in the Garage section.

This is what I asked for at the J/Y. It wasn't a u-pull-it, so I never saw the jeep. The lift was noticeable, so it must have been from the right model.

Make sure you specify V8, It's been said V6 was an option and the springs are different.

  7. Mythbuster says actually a negative result in mpg. went from like 24mpg to 18. I forgot what kind of car. Like a 87 buick or something similar

    Great Gas Conspiracy

Myth: Automakers and fuel suppliers are in collusion to keep us dependent on expensive gasoline and inefficient cars. There are many devices that one can use to cut your fuel consumption.

They got a carbureted car and a fuel-injected car to test several types of devices. The cars were placed on a dynamometer, which allows the car to drive without moving anywhere.

    Test devices and additives:

Fuel line magnets: working on the "principles of hydrodynamics," they are supposed to align the molecules for more efficient consumption.

Acetone additive: supposed to make gasoline burn more efficiently

    300mpg 'super' carburetor

Hydrogen fuel cell generator: flammable hydrogen gas produced by electrolysis. Adam labeled it "Gasbuster: Stickin' it to the Man"

They tested each car on the dynamometer at 35mph and 55mph with each 'device.'

    Carburetor car:

    Baseline: 17mpg at 35mph and 25mpg at 55mph

Magnets: exactly the same as baseline busted

    Acetone: 16.7mpg at 35mph and 24mpg at 55mph busted

Super carb: much worse than baseline, 12mpg at 35mph and 17.7mpg at 55mph busted

    Fuel-injected car

    Baseline: 19mpg at 35mph and 27mpg at 55mph

    Magnets: 18mpg at 35mph and 26mpg at 55mph busted

    Acetone: 18mpg at 35mph and 26mpg at 55mph busted

  8. Humming to myself as I search Monster.com for employer that allows radio...

    The sweetest song is silence

    That I've ever heard

    Funny how your feet

In dreams never touch the earth

In a wood full of princes

    Freedom is a kiss

But the prince hides his face

    From dreams in the mist

  9. ^^^what he said

Im just begginging to wonder if the amount of work im trying to get this car to be off road capable but its just fighting me back with all the little things i end up having to fix.

Do you mean off-road capable as in all-time off-road, or do you mean on and off road capable?

You may have to compromise on how off-road capable you want it and drive it daily. This would be the case with any 4x4. Again I say keep it!

  10. You guys make me sick!
