  1. Ok, fair enough, just thought I'd mention it... :D

Ok, in that case drain the tranny oil and fill it up with 5.1 liters of Redline MT-90. This might help some and will definitely help it last as long as possible...

:goodpost: redline is great stuff , well I don't like there engine oil all to much but for trans, transfer, and diffs it can't be beat.

  2. Hey guys! I just found you guys. I just bought a new (used) 95 XE last week. I've taken in out back up a big hill in my neighborhood and have never had more fun in a car in my life. Its really thrilling. I want to get into this but its a pretty much stock vehicle. The only thing i got is wrangler tires and some skid plates under neath front and back (don't know if it comes stock or not). Im really looking forward to making this an off road beast. Where should i start as far as upgrades and trails near the denver area that a kid like me can start off on? Thanks guys!!

If I started over the first MOD I would really look into is a hoohaa centerlink to help with the steering defects. You can find them online at www.grassroots.com.

  3. your right.. no argument from me.

there is a difference between on trail and off trail riding.. one is legal the other is not.

but if all it takes is for people to stay on the trail, be responsilbe, and tread lightly.. to keep our trails open.. then i'm all for it.

How many people on this board have been to a work party?

i have about 40 hours of volunteer time in this year alone, and more last year.

I can not say how many hours i have spent at work party's but i can tell you its allot. The group I am in makes sure to at least have 4 of your group at every local work party, most of the time there is way more of use, On top of that we clean up and maintain 7up in TSF regularly as we adopted the trail a few years back to keep it open.

Most of us also carry SOL bags, so we can clean up stuff we see on the trails. We use SOL bags because we can put them in any government land dumpster even none public use ones without having problems. If you are in oregon and want to get SOL bags for cleanups go to a sheriffs office, or a ODF&W office and tell them you are looking for litter cleanup bags.

I am a smoker, but i use my ashtray for my butts, It is so disturbing how many cig butts get left on trails your vertical has a ashtray for a reason and if it doesn't don't smoke in it. Cans are also a big problem. If you see people throwing out trash along the trail take a pic of there license plate and them throwing the waste and stop by the sheriffs office on your way home and turn in the pictures so they have to pay a fine that goes towards running cleanups in the area.

I am not a azz or anything but people that disrespect our land deserve to pay for it, the more of them we catch and teach a lesson to the more of our trails will stay open.

  4. I doubt you will get a straight answer to that, but Vsicks put one in his Terrano along with a SAS (truck engine though) and wheeled it pretty hard so, yeah, it should work. I understand that WD21 drive train (other than the front end) can handle a lot more than the power it gets from the 3.0.

I'm pipe dreaming about the VG33 swap myself, especially with my headers, custom exhaust and the intake that I plan to do should make the most of it and still be smog legal...

I went to do a search for any of his post and all it says is he was banned.

  5. I want to know how much torque a nissan 5 speed can handle. I have been thinking about doing a 3.3 swap after my sas, But the more I think about it the more I am leaning towards putting a GM 4.3L in it. I work for a GM OEM so i can get these parts at OEM level pricing. I would like to keep the stock running gear and just make a adapter to mate the 4.3L to the nissan 5 speed if it can handle it. But if I go with the the 4.3L it will not be a truck engine I would be using a marine long block and a industrial LP port injection intake and fuel system. (yes i know it will not be street legal) The thing is the engine would put our about 240 ft/lbs at around 2400 RPM, although that setup would red line around 4600 RPM.

  6. Swap in a dana 44 in the front. 86-91 waggy axles avoid vacume disconnect ones, or early bronco axles are about the right width and they are drive side drop. You could go with a 60 like posted above but if you are keeping the v6 it weighs to much for the engine. If you have a manual tranny it will be fine if you have a auto swap it for a manual or swap out the drive train to something with a stronger auto. Then to keep your power ether put 4.88 gears in the front dana 44 and get xterra 4.9 gears that will fit in your rear. or buy 5.13 for front and rear. That is just my opinion.

  7. yea, you can buy Blue Point right off the Snap-On truck

The Set i have has not been made for a long time now you know they were not low quality enough to stay in production LOL.

  8. My I-R impact takes A friggin tromping, Wouldn't trade that thing off for any other brand. Plastic case/ titanium guts... lightweight and powerfull as the day I bought it still...

I love my Blue-Point Air tools, (snap-on with differnt tags on them), I have abused those tools so hard, I got the hole set used cheep and have been using them for about 10 years now and they all still work great.

  9. Sure you can:

    me_1.jpg

That is an H233b up front, has D44 knuckles, hubs and outer shaft, custom milled inner shafts.

I should have stated that better, You cant use a rear axle in the front unless you are a really good fabricator or plane on throwing allot of money at it. I was trying to discourage someone from pulling the front end out of there truck that dosn't sound like they have the no how or skills to complete the job.

  10. When I stated My opinion on the 10,000 harbor freight ones I should have gave more of a overview. I watched a 8,000 pound warn blow a solenoid trying to pull a junk out car up a bank on a cleanup, Then the warn with onboard air compressor forgot its name try and keep overheating, Then watched a 10,000 harbor freight one that was tattered and beet pull the car to the top without stopping. Before I saw that I always thought the harbor freight ones were a joke, but now that I pay attention to them I have found no one that has had a problem with the harbor freight one in-less it was right out of the box and was traded straight across for a new one.

For the person that stated Ramsy winch's are junk. I completely agree on there electric winch's but they make very nice long lasting hydrolic winch's if you are willing to drop in that much money.

Warn winch's I use to think were the mighty unstoppable but with how often they go through solenoids I have changed my mind on that.

Superwinch's have good pull but the cases are made to cheep. They will pull you up stuff but when it hits a rock or tree its done 4.

Those are the only winch's I have exepriance with so I can't talk informed on other brands.

  11. A pathfinder can handle a 4 hour drive easy, My pathfinder ran 8 days in a row with bias ply 33" swampers, going from highway to offroad to highway through towns back to highway, then back to offroad. It averagely got to rest for a hour lunch brake and 7 hour night stops the rest of the time it was on the move. The pathfinder was able to make the hole trip and It is not like it was easy driving, and It was ran hard offroad then right back on the highway to the next offroad location. not many vehicles can make it through that kind of abuse. also should note it had about 180,000 miles on it when it started the trip, and it has had good matanace sence i have owned it but when i got it not to long before that trip it was apparent matanance was not done on the vehical.

  12. Sorry, pic didn't come up. You can see it on Harbor Freights website.

    Lot no. 67576

You are better off finding one of there 20% off coupons and picking up the 10,000lb winch. I have not seen the 8000 in use but know 2 people running the 10,000lb ones with no problems with them, Also note that the 10,000 has a roller fairlead instead of the just rounded slot fairlead. There is also not a big weight difference between the 2. I have a 10,000 in my hallway at home but am waiting tell after my SAS is done to build a bumper for it.

  13. Just make a real bumper and weld it on. :my2cents: On a real note i would try to help you but during my body lift i ended up cutting them out and installing new rev-nuts so mine are not the right size anymore.

  14. I would take the pathfinder, like you said you know how to work on it more, It will leave you a hobby while you are down there, and like said before chicks dig trucks. Or just sale the malibu so you have more money to fix the things you don't like about your pathfinder.

When I moved away from my hometown area,, (country in Oregon grew up wheeling) I moved to the city to go to collage, my family talked me into saleing my 4x4 and getting a car for in city driving. Note i had been building the old jeep grand wagoneer for years and there was nothing stock left on it. I have regretted letting them talk me into it ever sence.

  15. Double check under the throttle body, mine split right behind the clamp on the bottom, you couldn't see it or feel it, but if you moved the tube you could feel the gap open up.

Sorry I should have been more exact on where they brake, I have only seen them rip on the under side right at the throttle body or on the top right at the air box. I have went through more then one of these tubes now, Soon as the one i have on now goes I will be making a aluminum or brass version so I will not have the problem again.

That tube being ripped causes more problems then you can think of. also lets dirt and Darbee get in your engine. You will lose a vast amount of power, will get more ping, your idle will not stay at one place. That is just for starters. It will affect every vacuum system that has a line off that tube, you will be getting different air flow then you MAFs is reading so your ecu will correct off a improper air flow.

  16. ok so here is the deal i got 2 pathfinders and i am sticking the engine in one of them (both 1992). Any way i want to put a lift on it and every thing and do an sas. Should i use my rear axle from my one pathfinder for the front axle for the other?

Any way i just want all your opinions what i should do ( lift, sas, tires) My budget right now is 6000$

    thanks

And i am thinking 35" tires.....

    thanks ya'll!!!!

You can not use a rear axle as a front axle unless you never want to turn only go straight. For a front axle if you want to stay close to stock width you need a 86-91 grand wagoneer or a bronco axle i don't know years to use of the bronco axle, If you want your tires way out the sides for offroad only vehicle you can use a chevy half ton front axle. I am going to add some links that will help you understand better.

    nissannut

    npora sas link

    npora front axle option page

If you look around you will find allot more information, A SAS is not really a project a person starting out on fabrication work should start with. There is allot of things you can do wrong and leave yourself with a none working vehicle. If you still think you want to do a SAS I recommend reading every peace of information on doing it that you can.

  17. That's right! It was Mister510 who was the other person in the videos.

Yeah. We're both excited to go down there, but hoping to go super slow and steady so that we don't dent up our daily drivers! Some of those muddy, rutted hill climbs may be a bit more than I want to wallop through until I get a bit more comfortable. My risk tolerance threshold isn't all that high yet. :)

If you get a weekend off anytime soon, we should definitely try to get out there!

    Warning

Proceed with caution offroad driving is addictive and unlike other addictions it is one that can keep growing and growing.

On a real note all of use that offroad originally started as a noob at some point. The best thing to do is start small and work your way up. As you get more comfortable with it you will try harder things and find the limits for you and your rig. Then comes the fun part of improving your pathfinder to make it more capable and at the same time every trip you will learn something that makes it so you know how to react to trails and situations So the growth of you and your 4x4 is truly only limited by how far you are willing to go.
