  1. 300 for a set eh? Well, better than what the dealer cost is... $275 for one.

I havent checked out any scrappers... although, any I have ever noticed, seems to have the fender I need smashed up.

I got the price from NAPA today on the fenders. Non-flare type is 135.33 per side, flare-type is 155.33 per side.

Beats the heck out of dealer pricing any day! :jig:

  2. Any more info on how the rust got started..ie. around the nylon inserts for the flares or where they hug the body line...

When I wash my R50 always run my fingers around the lip of the quarter behind the flare to keep the debris from sitting there.

When I added OE flares to my 98 I did not use the nylon anchors and the self tappers started to eat my quarters away---yes very upsetting indeed--I feel your pain!

On the fenders it started at random points near the anchors... All it took was a little dust, salt and moisture to start the rust... Only option now is to get it fixed. :(

  3. The pathy naturally is a bit higher in the back, than the front, and some people dont like it.

I just have the 2" lift... not interested in the spacers myself.

Tow truck look eh...? It does look raked for sure but that is bad ass :D

I love how my Pathy sits... it's a truck, but has a real sporty look and feel

to it... Oh wait, it's an SUV

  4. tekazgtr1984 -- people have used the strut spacers with the 2" lift... typically they will add an inch to the front, to even out the tow truck look... any more than that is a lot of extra strain on your CV angles.

    Tow truck look?

I was thinking strut spacers up front and maybe polyurethane coil spacers for the back... still totally unsure 'cuz 2" has been better than alright for me so far.

Do you have both apps on your Pathy?

  5. 300 for a set eh? Well, better than what the dealer cost is... $275 for one.

I havent checked out any scrappers... although, any I have ever noticed, seems to have the fender I need smashed up.

True enough... It's almost best to have someone inform you as soon as a Pathy comes into the wrecker so you can get

first dibs... ;) Otherwise I'd say meh...

As for NAPA, it is a gazillion times better than dealer "pricing"... "Gouging" seems more appropriate to me.

And I've been going to NAPA since I picked up my Pathy in April and I've been able to haggle prices. It may help save

you a few bucks, which always add up in the long run. Try your best to get them to give you a deal :jig:

  6. No. The strut rod attaches to the upper strut plate. If you put the strut spacer between the plates you sit one inch higher since the coil sits at the same height when the weight is on it, but it prevents the strut from flexing too far and exceeding your CV angle...

Oh sweet! So then a spacer app would be a good way to add extra space...?! :jig:

    That's awesome! :fireworx:

  7. They are?? Where... as I need one. It has the cancer.

Well wreckers tend to be really good price-wise but kind of infrequent and results are purely luck...

So I did the next best thing: went to NAPA and got a set on back-order. Just be sure to let them know

whether your fenders have the OEM flares or not, as the part #'s vary ;)

They end up about $400 for the set with flares... Without was $300-something-ish...

And you're totally right Pezzy, rust is cancer for vehicles... It's quite sad :(

Why they still use salt on the roads in winter is waaaay beyond me... it's totally useless!!! :rant2:

  8. ***Important notice to R50 owners with detachable fender flares***

So I noticed a small rust bubble on my right-side quarter panel a while back and finally decided to take my flares off yesterday... :ohno01:

Oh man I nearly started to cry! I knew I had to get some body work done but whoa... The quarter panel will need, without any doubt in my

mind, some serious welding done... The left-side quarter panel was has some minor surface rust (which is no big deal to repair). And

both fenders will need to be replaced due to rust penetration on both. :(

Luckily, fenders are cheap to buy and pretty easy to replace, and with my plans to apply Durabak paint I'll wait that out till spring (please

see Paint thread http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19811 for more info), but the body work on the rear quarter panels will

have to be done asap. More money I have to spend that I don't have... :rant2:

I've noticed this rust issue on many R50's in Winnipeg and I would imagine the fender flares only accelerate the problem. To that end, I'm gonna

experiment with some ideas to rust-proof those rust target areas once the body work is done. :D

PS - I'll post pics of before and after of my progress. I would now but it's waaaay dark out

  9. I've been thinking of combining both apps to make way for 33" tires...

that is, strut tower spacers and and polyurethane coil spacers in the

rear... Still thinking about it with the other stuff I have to get done

    beforehand... :treadmill:

But with spacers installed won't the CV axles get even more angled,

resulting in more stress on them?

But just for the record, I'd still go with a lift kit just because it mean

in beefier springs (which make a HUGE difference off-road) and plushier

struts and shocks (which really improve on-road handling and off-road

damping when absorbing bumps and such).:D

  10. I am on the road this week (Nelson, Grand Forks, Cranbrook) so will respond to the requests for shipping prices when I get home or if I can figure out how to do it while on the road. If I recall right, the shipping in Canada was almost as much as the cost of the skids themsleves, so I am not sure if it is cost effective to ship them south of the line.

Thanks Pezzy and yes I still have the cargo barrier. Its a $100 Canadian Tire item, not sure its worth shipping to Ont? Also, I may use it in the Foz so will be hanging onto it for a bit.

No problem and yes, updates on the Foz will occur if wanted. Here is a picture to start. Its pretty dirty but the colour hides it well:

    IMG_2272.jpg

Are those Black Panther skids? I'd like 'em if possible! :D

That's a sweet-ass Sube by the way. Nice colour and excellent off-road capability.

It does reminds me of that commerical with the sumos though... *shudder* :ill:

  11. Against it... too many nasty accidents in Winnipeg due to drinking and driving.

On the trails though, to eash his/her own. As long as it doesn't put anyone

else at risk but the person drinking.

Riding shotty on trails while being half in the bag is quite a good time though :D

  12. I would start with two and go from there. One gallon of house paint puts two coats on a LOT of wallspace. I've been painting for quite some time now.

I know house paint isn't the same as bedliner-style coatings (coating thickness, etc) but still, I can't imagine using 4 gallons on a single vehicle unless you straight dumped it on the roof and let it drip down onto the rest. heh

    Lol :D

I agree with you there 100% 88... Although doing that would look pretty, um, interesting...?

I contacted Durabak, and they won't ship directly to a Canadian address...! :rant2: That means I'd have to

go to the border to pick it up. Just wanted to let any other Canucks know this in case any of y'all

would want to do this paint app.

So 2 gallons it is... Seeing as how I need to mix in Xylene to thin it out in order to spray it, that amount

    should do the trick :)

  13. Keep in mind that thicker paint will result in thicker coat on your truck. Theres a guy up here who painted his Trekker build in a similar product (bedliner type stuff) and I recall he had a few issues with clearances for the tailights, handles, hatch etc.

but good luck with it, your truck will look killer with it :D

    Thanks guys! :D :D :D

I'm hoping to go through with this project... but it will require some serious work.

I'm thinking I'll actually take the panels, hatch and doors off... Paint 'em all separate

as to avoid clearance issues... Hopefully I can get some help from a paintshop

or the like, either for the app or just suggestions to make it easy.

Of course I'll post pics! :jig:

I'm hoping to do some real sweet-ass custom work with the paint, in the ultimate

hopes of rendering my Pathy's body and chassis invincible from rust... I just hate

    rust so damn much...! :rant2:

  14. Hey everyone, good thread as this is an important topic for the R50 :D

After checking out 4x4parts.com, I've done some serious thinking

concerning the whole manual hub issue to ease wear on the CV axles.

My Pathy is lifted and, after I noticed how angled the CV axles are,

I've been wondering what I should do to alleviate my worries.

Manual hubs are easily the best idea, but how about switching to

a beefier set of CV axles as well? I've found these:

    https://www.4x4parts.com/catalog/product_in...roducts_id=4305

Maybe these and the hubs would be uber tough...

    Any suggestions?

  15. Retail price on the WD22 Navara snorkel is now $320. I spent an additional $30 or so in other parts.

Where did you find your snorkel? The one for the R50 on 4x4parts.com is for the JDM Terrano.

The horizontal portion makes space for the antenna which would look kind of silly on a LHD

    North American R50...

  16. Yeah..saw those but apparently they are not as HD as Marcel's. Not to mention gettin' hooped on shipping. :ohno01:

Really...? 3/16 steel seems pretty beefy... Marcel must be damn good if he makes his skid plates

tougher than that. Damn! I wish he'd return 'cause I'd love a set of famed Black Panther skid plates :D

Rumour has it he's from around these parts too... That would be boss for shipping. Hell, I'd just go pick

    them up :jig:

  17. keep in mind the website stated you need a large opening to spray this stuff, its thick and i fear may cause trouble in some paint guns.

Thanks for the advice :D I was wondering the same thing myself considering most paints are relatively thinner.

Luckily I have the necessary equipment for this type of application :jig: ...or rather can borrow it when I go through with this project.

I can't bear to watch any vehicle rust, let alone my own... :ohno01: That's why this paint seems to be a good, long-term idea: durability

and rust-proofability (is that even a word?)

  18. Nah, I got from Phoenix to NY for under $1000 including hotels....but then again, gas was only $2.50. LOL.

You could probably have it shipped for about $900, but then there would be customs and duty fees and import charges. Probably better for a US buyer, eh?

If purchased as a parts vehicle not necessarily ;)

You have a ton of sweet mods I'd like to put on my R50 :)
