it is on my 87, theres the iacv, and the ficd, in between the 2 is an adjusting screw for setting the base idle, according to alldata, but it is supposed to be a needle valve, but it doesnt look right, im going to take this thing apart tonight and clean it real good inside and out. it is caked in crapola.
-
you know, i been trying to get my idle issues worked out as well, that needle valve your talking about that can be adjusted to get the base idle? well i screwed mine all the way out and took it out to have a look at it, it is square on the end with a recessed area like a cup, im thinking something is supposed to be in there but there is nothing in there, nor in the hole i took it out of, can see all the way to inside throttle chamber, do you know if that is a two piece deal or a good picture of one? i ll try to post a picture of mine tomarrow.

well heres the update so far, took it to pitstop performance here in phoenix. guy worked on it all day and narrowed it down to a wiring problem. either a short in the wiring for the crank angle sensor or throttle position sensors wiring. so i got a troubleshooting chart from alldata and going to try and track it down. anyone who has a z24i i could really use some info, on my throttle sensor there are two plugs to it, one is a pigtail coming off the sensor itself, the other plugs in to it, well this one that plugs into it has been damaged, it has slots for three wires, there are only two, a red and a green, im not sure they are in the right terminals. green on bottom red in middle top one empty. is this correct?

where to get a wiring harness for 87 pathy with z24i
Red87Path replied to Red87Path's topic in Z24 Engine Discussion
not sure if it can be repaired or not, seems there is a short, if i cant find it iwas thinking of just replacing it, also there are some wires that dont appear to be in right place, plugs cracked and wont stay tight, etc. i took it to a shop to see if they could figure out why it wont hold idle and accelarates the way it has been , jerking and stuff , he checked it very thoroughly but couldnt find anything mechanical and he doesnt do wiring so im kinda sol. im not very good with a voltage tester so i dont think i will be able to find the short myself. i tried lookin on painless wirings website but couldnt find one for my truck. -
yea, thats what im thinking, im gonna be pissed when i find out it was "just" some little thing. soon as i find a decent shop i can take it to in phoenix, besides a dealership im gonna take it in. soo looking forward to taking this thing off in the dirt soon.

never mind, figured it out my self. ran vacuum from regulator to intake manifold by the egr solenoid. think that helped my rough idle. thanks anyway
-
latest on this problem, the idle is good finally, i got a really detailed vacuum diagram from nissannuts page, checked and replaced a couple vacuum hoses, my idle is good now. now if i could just get it to accelerate like its supposed to without pumpiing the gas pedal like a madman. anyone ever have this happen? when ya step on the gas it just falls on its face at sputters and jerks?
-
yea, and the next four hours cover taxes to the irs. what a shame.
-
anyone ever change where the pressure regulator runs off of? was reading somewhere about running it off of the intake manifold rather than the throttle body to get better vacuum. wich brings up my next question, does the regulator run off of vacuum? i dont know much about fuel injection, all the vehicles ive owned that i worked on ha d carbys.
-
mine has electronic distributor, no vacuum. thats kinda what it seems like is the timing is off, but it isnt. although im still unsure if the setting i got of internet is correct. 10 degrees btdc. sammy, mine has a chain, it is the 4 cylinder. and it has a new timing chain , guy i bought it from put it in. ive only had it a month. its got all kinds of new, new injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs and wires, cap and rotor, radiator is new, all new vacuum lines, new catylitic converter. i think i need to find a wiring diagram for this engine and make sure all the wiring is correct. there are a few hacked and spliced wires. im thinking this moter was not the original.

im not sure, i know it takes forever to get warmed up in morning, afternoon not so much here in the AZ heat. but never gets above 1/4 of the gauge. ive been wondering if there is something wrong with the dashpot, ive never noticed it to move, it is always in same postion , hot or cold.
-
yea i sparayed all the vacuum hoses as well as around the intake manifold and bottom of the throttle body, everything. and really the main problem im having with it right now is worse than the idle problem, the only way to get it to accelerate is to pump the gas pedal up and down. if i just step on the gas it stumbles and jerks. the exhaust plugs are getting spark, although, the guy i bought it from put new wires and plugs in it, im not sure if he has the right coils hooked up to the right side. nor am i sure of the firing order, what i find in my haynes manual is diffrent from what i have found online. but it runs, and accelerates great if i pump the gas. new fuel pump, new fuel filter, rotor, cap, timing chain and gears, the guy who had it put a lot of money into it before i got it. i hope i can get this problem worked out before the end of the month, my temp tag runs out and i gotta get it through emissions.

already cleaned it, the sensor is underneath the air cleaner on the side of the throttle body. i thought of doing the wiggle test but the issue is not at idle, it is when it is driving. it is idling pretty good.
-
so the most ive come up with is maf sensor, anyone know how to test it? or am i gonna need to shell out 160$ for a new one i might not need?
-
mine is still runnin like crap. idles great now that the injectors are tight and all the vacuum lines are proper. timing is dead on, all electrical connections clean and tight except im misssing the clip that locks in the plug for the MAF. but it doesnt appear to be backing out, cleaned that also with a q-tip. ran sea foam through it. my problem is acceleration, only way to get going is pumping the gas , or it lurches and jerks and jumps. im sure i look like im driving 5 speed for first time taking off from lights. no codes on my ecu either. i dont know what else to check. egr is functioning fine, no vacuum leaks. new plugs, new wires. just no stompie on the gas or it chokes. miles and miles of AZ desert to explore
-
can this be done to the 4 cyl with dual plug setup?
-
pulled the maf and cleaned it, wasnt really dirty. there only 2 screws in it, 3rd on is missing since i bought it. the tps was replaced by someone before i bought it. i wasnt aware it could be adjusted on the 4 cyl. have voltmeter. thing is when i push down on the gas a little ways and then float the pedal up and down it accelerates great. but i gotta keep the up and down on the gas to keep accelerating. if i ease of it like trips on itself. jerkin and crap. ive had great faith in nissan for years, even prompted me to buy a new altima, but this thing is something else. another thing, how can you determine wich coil is the intake side and wich is the exhuast side? my haynes gives color coding but the wires have been changed to aftermarket and dont know if they are even right.
