  1. (for a better explanation, I will name the parts the same name they do in the Factory service manual...)

To my opinion, it would probably be the journals. Since the front propeller shaft was removed, (and the noise is gone), we can safely assume that the front differential bearing is not causing the noise as it still turns when the propeller shaft is removed.

There is 2 for the front propeller. When you buy them, they come with the journal bearings and the snap rings. You can see on page PD-5 of the fsm that you will need two of them. You can go oem or find an alternate in aftermarket. I did a post on this some time ago : see here http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/25609-spicer-u-joints-vs-oem-nissan/?p=481906 (they cost about 23 USD$ each,

To replace them, have a look here :

Now,,, is that a great answer or what .!

  2. Do a simple test....

Remove your front propeller and do a test drive. If the noise is gone, then it is something related to the propeller, if not then you can continue doing diagnostics... It could just be a bad wheel bearing or even a transfer case bearing etc...

  3. Crawled under the pathfinder today to check the u-joints and sure enough one joint on front shaft is really bad and one joint on the rear shaft is just developing some slop. So I guess its time to replace all 4. Any particular brand u-joint recommended? Im thinking it should be a pretty easy job cant be as bad as the double cardan joint with centering ball on the front shaft of the discovery. Im hoping this will solve vibration.

here'a post i made concerning ujoint and brands.

  4. Just wanted to introduce myself. As my screen name says, I'm Scott. I recently just bought an 04 Pathfinder Chinook Edition. Got to admit that I've wanted a Pathfinder long before I could even drive. So this is kind of a dream come true for me. MY g/f drives the truck more than I do as I commute over 100kms 1 way to work but on the weekend I'll take it whenever I can. I'm from the Niagara region in Ontario and work in north Mississauga. Glad to find so many people out there that share the same love of the Pathfinder as I have. Hope to get to know the regulars soon, and who knows maybe meet up for a trail run some times.

    Welcome to the fun !

  5. Not sure if there is a difference between AC and autozone, but if you plan on doing any kind of offroad and would like a permanent solution for the cv boots, have a look here at my post back in 2010 : http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/26677-rockford-thermoplastic-cv-boot/

I am still running the same set I installed at this time and there is no signs of wear on them.... definitely worth every penny.
