  1. Nice truck, Mike. Please tell me you have plans for it, i.e., lift and all that schwag. ;)

Ty, whats good man? How is the QX4?

For a little while I have no plans for it (wife put a **** block on it)...at some point I would like to level it and lift in the future, skids, sliders, FJ cruiser TRD Anthracite wheels, TRD exhaust and intake, etc. TRD makes a factory backed supercharger for these bad boys but its $3,500 or so...Maybe if I win the lottery

  2. Not a fan of that particular wheel personally but am happy they made the front end components look like they were actually made for them now compared to the 4gen 4runner style cobbed together parts bin look. Enjoy it though :aok:

Thanks, I test drove the Frontiers as well and honestly it was no comparison...the Tacoma felt so much more solid and the engine felt like it had more torque off the line, you really had to wring the Frontier out to get to the power...

Nice truck man! I've always loved Tacomas. They only thing I'm disappointed in is the lack of ingenuity on the motor/drivetrain. The MPG on those trucks are horrible for a modern v6...might as well buy a Tundra with a v8 and nearly the same fuel mileage. If toyota brings some innovation to the next gen, I could see myself buying one.

I can appreciate that...the same motor in the FJ cruiser and the 4Runner is making 270hp, only 240hp in the Tacoma. As far as MPG I spent a good bit of time looking on Taco and Frontier forums and real world economy was pretty similar for the stock trucks...

Congrats..and enjoy. Pick ups are nice but i am more of a Suv kind a guy. They all have their pros and cons.

I just got married a couple months ago and with us getting a house at some point soon (hopefully) a pickup made more sense. Her next vehicle will be an SUV and mine will be based on my needs at the time... I miss the SUV but the cargo area got trashed because of all of the dirty @!*% I would throw back there...

How dare you post a Toyota on a Nissan Site :P

    :puterpunch:

  3. So I had a nice 6 month stint with a 2011 Civic Si...had lots of fun with the VTEC and corner carving suspension but reality slapped me in the face every time I drove the car for more than an hour when my back hurt the rest of day...

Enter my 2012 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport 4WD...My heart wanted to get the TRD offroad model with the locker and skid plates and all that but in reality it will never be challenged enough to use that stuff so the Sport model with the painted everything and nicer wheels was the choice to make...

  4. I got the ones that needed to be "pressed in" from another member that never used them, and I just used a vice with lots of grease and it popped right in.

Are you calling me lazy? I'll have you know I replaced the bushings on all four links in my 2001...

I had a local off road shop press out the old ones and install new poly bushings. They had a lot of trouble getting out a couple of them. Nissan is correct that it is a major pain in the ass.

If you don't want poly bushings then it is easiest to replace the entire control arms. Don't go with the dealership though, try rockauto or a different source as they will be substantially cheaper. Pressing out bushings requires a hydraulic press (which I do not personally have access to). Replacing with new control arms is something you can do in your driveway fairly easily with air tools, or still somewhat easily with hand tools.

They didn't use their brains then. It really is quite simple if you follow the procedure I posted above.

  5. Looks sick man! My thoughts:

-Don't cut up a perfectly good truck unless you are 150% sure this is what you want to do. I hesitate to do such things to a daily driver.

-It looks to me like everyone telling you to regear has a VG33. I wouldn't unless you can get gears cheap, the VQ has plenty of get up and go.

-Come to MD and take me off roading so I can regret selling my R50 more than I already do.

  6. If you are going through the pain of removing the links yourself the bushings are a minor inconvenience in comparison. I think each bushing took me 10 minutes to remove, I just used a press to push the rubber out (it just ripped off of the sleeve every time), put the link in a bench vice and use a sawzall to cut the sleeve. It comes out easily after that.

And I don't know for a fact but the polyurethane bushings you can buy online are apparently stiffer than the rubber bushings in stock links, making the suspension feel a lot tighter.

  7. K&N or JWT. WeaponR has terrible fitment issues. I had one on my 97 and it sucked, I got a K&N for my 01 and was very impressed with it vs. the weaponR. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of the weaponR, stick with the JWT or K&N or leave the stock intake.

  8. The R50 kills the R51 in every way... my 2001 was faster, got better mileage, handled better, and had ZERO squeaks or rattles than my friends one year old R51. Having driven his a couple hundred miles I am not impressed at all.

Anybody who thinks the R51 handles better than the R50 is dead wrong, they must have driven an R50 with over 100,000 miles on original shocks/springs.

    BTW: 5 speed + VQ35 + 4WD = winning combo every time

  9. well its a very small whole in the rubber tubbing i put the maf sensor in i doubt it leaks that much its pretty tight, and my gas milage is unreal, its been exactly a week since the install and i havnt noticed any change than from when i installed it.

Sounds about right... I had a SRI on my 97 Pathfinder and my 01 Pathfinder and saw no mileage benefit, or throttle response like some people claim. I did it for the sound and I got the sound and was happy...

  10. Thanks! yah I wasnt really looking for a BMW, but it was cheap, and had low miles for a '97 and i bought it from a friend, so i know it was taken care of. (for the most part!)

Got a new gas cap for a EVAP leak code, then do an oil change soon, and replace a fog light, other than that its all good! :)

They are great fun to drive, too bad it had to be an auto but cheap and known service history are both good things

  11. Thanks. I get a lot of comments on the color (which I hated at first cause I wanted silver), but now it's grown on me.

But I'm actually not being a "cheapass". I'm just waiting on something that Thunderbolt has been working on. I think it has some real potential.

No way that color is great...only color I would want other than black (which I had)...

And I was being sarcastic...you cheapass :itsallgood:

  12. Jesus people talk about beating a dead horse. I was never actually directly under anything. If the truck were to fall, it would fall on the lower control arm and even then it would not come anywhere near hitting my body.

Is it such a bad thing to have people car for you?

Also, great news it was a cheap, quick fix...now you can get that badass monstrosity back on the trails!

  13. I know a few people that would like to steal your engine and swap it into an EF, EG, or EK hatch.

Then it is a good thing you live in WA...I'm not even taking it down to University of Maryland, it stays home in the country in the garage until weekends...If I brought it down here I run a real high chance of it getting stolen and stripped, even all stock...

  14. F*ck the haters, Mike.

Nothing wrong with a Civic Si. In fact, the sedan in black looks pretty slick. A CAI would be a nice mod and has nothing to do with rice. :aok:

I have to admit, though. I'm a bit upset you let your rig go without taking out the rear LSD and selling it to me.

OT: It's been sitting in storage since February. I was waiting on Mike to pull the trigger because I know he wanted it for his R50.

As of now, I'm debating putting up a for sale thread... ;)

I knew some people would hate, its the nature of the Si. I didn't have the time to remove parts or I would have removed the K&N, headlights, LSD, and lift.

Nice Civic! the 4 doors look way better than the coupes IMO. Good deal! Don't be a stranger on the boards now!

    Jose

I agree and much more of a practical long term car. And I don't plan on being a stranger, the people on this forum are great so I must hang around...

  15. Hoooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhh

is what it will sound like with a fart can

Rest assured I will never know.

    Put on air intake......gain 50hp

If I did an intake it would be for sound like I did with the Pathfinder. I am no ricer.

  16. As the title says I traded in my R50... I was just pricing out for a couple months from now and they offered me way more than my Pathfinder was worth and way less than the Si is worth...

Last pic of the Pathfinder at the dealer

And the new car... I have driven every new sports car 40k and under and the transmission and urgency the Si moves with are second to none...
