#1) Y'know, in the next 12 months, we're gonna start getting members on here with the new 05-06 Pathys...Will they be on the logo?... #2) Everyone has a different idea of what they like in a T-shirt. We're gonna need at least 4-5 different styles and 4-5 different colors. If that jacks up the price, somewhat, so be it. As long as it' not ridiculous. #3) You may or may not like Jeeps, but take a look at the merchandise page at Jeep.com. They have an awesome publicity machine and big money to spend (and we don't) but there are some good ideas there, anyway... Cheers, PS: "It's a Nissan thing, you Jeepers wouldn't understand..."

I got a '96 Ti (Aussie name for LE) with 15x8 wheels (CSA Magnums) and 31"x10.5" BFG A/T KOs. Firstly, I get no rubbing at all (Although I have a slight suspension lift). Second, It all fits under my factory-original flares. And thirdly, I love my BFGs. I know that they're really common, but there's a reason for that. Just make sure to get a matching spare. Driving a few miles on a spare a couple inches smaller in diameter really will destroy the diff. I'm sure you knew this (judging by the pic of your XJ - Very nice by the way :secret: ) but some things are worth repeating. Anyway, hope this helps.

Jeez, I thought this would be a really hot topic. Don't more people want a snorkel for their Pathy?
-
Yeah, not on a 4x4, though. Happened to an old Toyota Celica I once owned. Sounded like a Massey Fergusson.

Myself and a few people I know have been banging our heads against a brick wall for awhile, hoping for a snorkel to become available for the R50. Someone I know recently contacted Safari Snorkels and asked them why they don't do one for the R50 when there are so many offroading around the world. This is a quote from an email he just received from Safari: Quote: Yes, there is a possibility Safari will produce a snorkel for the R50, however, for the moment, there is insufficient demand. Generally speaking, we need to be confident of moving some 200 units in the short term to warrant manufacturing costs. Regards, (Name deleted to protect the innocent) Safari We have the possibility of getting this made if there is sufficient demand. Could I get an indication of demand from you guys. If we can get a few hundred 'yes' answers, they might make one. If we can get a few thousand , they will . Please vote. Assume the price would be similar to other snorkels available. (eg X-Terra).

A little strip of 'smoked-look' contact paper ought to do the trick. Or nail-polish. (Don't ask me how I know this).

Fernando, Dude, the LPG tank's outside the vehicle, directly unfer the trunk, where the spare wheel used to live. This is why I carry my spare on my roof. The law here won't let you put the tank inside the trunk of a station wagon-type vehicle, because it's essentially in the cabin. As a result, my tank occasionally gets knocked when I'm offroad but it came with it's own armor-plate and it's doing well. Like you, I'm on the lookout for a swingaway carrier (my truck's a '96, too), but Nissan never offered them on R50s in Australia. There are other mods on the list first, though... sly I don't know what brand off of the top of my head. I'll take a look and get back to you later. Airrun, Where do ya habitate? Just curious.

Let us know how this turns out?

Was I right? Or do I owe you an apology?

Nice-looking truck. I reckon you'll find white sheetmetal a lot lower maintenance then black. darn, I wish we got the 3.5 engine here in Oz. pssd :sniff:

Fernando, and others, I have dual-fuel installed on my truck. This means I still have the ability to run on conventional unleaded (or premium). But I also can run on LPG. LPG is short for Liquified Petroleum Gas. It is made from a 50/50 mix of Propane and Butane. Propane and Butane ar both by-products of gasoline and oil exploration and extraction. Whilst they are used in industry (and in cigarette lighters) they would otherwise be wasted. It's been around for a couple of decades in Europe and Australia / Zew Zealand. Here in Australia I'm currently paying about $1.16 (AUD) per liter for Premium unleaded. (That's about $3.20 (USD) per gallon. LPG is costing me about 40c per liter (AUD). That's about $1.05 (USD) per gallon. These calculations are a bit rough but you see the savings. The reason it's so cheap is a combination of oil-company policy (they don't sell enough LPG world-wide to dictate prices) and government policy (in Australia the government don't tax us on LPG as high). There is a trade-off, though. It costs to install. (About 2 grand in Aussie Dollars). It terms of performance, your engine runs in a somewhat different manner on LPG than it does on regular petrol (or gasoline, if you prefer). It runs much cleaner but a bit hotter. Do some serious research before spending on the conversion. Expect a performance drop. You will lose some engine power. This can be avoided if you are running on LPG all the time and you tune the car appropriately. It takes a bit of patience. If you run dual-fuel like I do, you must make a compromise in your tuning in order to run well on both types of fuel. I have done pretty well but I lose about 5 HP when I'm running on LPG. I have my original 79-liter petrol (gasoline) tank and also a 65-liter LPG tank. I have a switch on the dash to change from one to the other. That simple. When I fill both, I can drive about 900-1000 miles between refuelling. (This is a handy ability in Australia). Your engine will chew through, say, f'rinstance, 10 gallons of LPG quicker than 10 gallons of regular petrol (gasoline). The same amount will only take you about 80% as far in distance, but the dollar saving outweighs this. I love mine and my fuel bill has dropped about $50 a week with all of the city commuting I do, here in Sydney. I use LPG for all my city running and premium unleaded offroading, for the extra 5 HP. Extra servicing costs are negligible once the system is installed. Once installed, it's not tempramental. It's rugged enough for anything you wanna do. The only trade-off, offroad is that you may lose about half-a-degree of departure angle, due to the tank. Before you go to LPG, consider these points: 1. How available is LPG around where you live? How many gas stations sell it? 2. Would it be better for you to replace the fuel system with LPG? Or keep the fuel system and add LPG? (I recommend the latter). 3. Can you live with a 5 HP (ish) drop in power? 4. What's the price difference between LPG and regular where you live? 5. What's the installation cost? 6. What are the local DMV laws? (ie: Is an engineer certificate required for registration?) 7. Where are you going to relocate the spare wheel. The LPG tank goes exactly where the spare wheel is located beneath your truck. (It looks like you're thinking ahead, here. I carry my spare on the roof). Do some searches on the web. There are some very informative sites out there, I'm sure. :gossip: LPG can be very worthwhile, depending on how you use your truck and where you live. PS: And the answer is "No", these tanks don't explode in a crash. (Trust me, someone always asks this question). :secret: I hope that this rather long-winded post is helpful/informative/entertaining to someone, somewhere. Happy Trails,

Worn out ignition switch? Open circuit between ignition switch and starter motor? My money's on one of these. I've had the same thing, myself (not in Pathy, though).

You're gonna have room left over for a passenger?

Are you sure you don't want an air-locker? I've heard some horror-stories about what happens in 4wd when you're cruising down some dirt road and in the middle of a sweeping corner your front locker kicks in and puts the vehicle into an unrecoverable spin. Story ends in tears. Personally, I'd go for a detroit in the rear and an ARB air in the front. I'm just waiting for my Lotto numbers to come up...

Thanks, Precise1. This is all really helpful, and relevant to R50 also. It will all go into my brain for retrieval when the mailman delivers the much-anticipated new toy.

WOW. There are some folks here that need to sort out some issues. It's hugely unfashionable around here, apparently, but I dig Jeeps. The different models, Grands, Libertys and Wranglers, are targeted at different buyers. Just like Nissan targets, Armadas, Pathfinders and XTerras at different buyers. (Strange but Jeep calls the Liberty the Cherokee in Australia - Changed the model but kept the same old name). Either way, we're kinda spoilt here 'cause ours are built (right-hand-drive) in a Mercedes plant in Austria (that's Austria in Europe, not me misspelling Australia) and then shipped here to Australia new. The build quality is pretty good. What you'd expect from a Mercedes production line. They're really expensive to service and repair out here, though. All parts being imported. Anyhow, I dig Jeeps. They're very capable in the right hands. It's just that for my money, the Pathfinder was a better option. I looked at Jeeps closely and found: Grand Cherokee too expensive and too complex (for my tastes) XJ Cherokee (built in the USA) have a very inconsistent build quality (sorry)- You'll either get a trooper or a lemon and you'll never know which 'till after you bought it. Also, they're a major electrical problem looking for a place to happen. KJ Cherokee (Liberty to most of you) a great vehicle - I loved driving it, BUT a cargo space too small to justify it's existence. Wrangler too small. I love Wranglers. I really do but I need something just a bit bigger than that. So I ended up looking at Nissan Pathfinders and Mitsubishi Challengers (Montero Sports to you North Americans). Pathfinder won. It's build quality is easily equal to the Austrian-built Jeeps. It's cheaper to buy, run and service. It's easier to get parts. And for me: It combines the simplicity of a Wrangler with the room of a Grand Cherokee. I think Jeeps are great. But the best one I could find is built by Nissan.

I've run both of these sizes before with no lift and standard wheels.

Man, I am so jeleous of you guys with the 240 HP 3.5-liter. Here in Australia they never gave us that engine. We still get the 3.3 version that only generates about half that much power. Nissan Australia are a pack of bastards.

I CAN SAY WITH 95% CERTAINTY WHAT YOUR RATTLE IS. I had the same sound at the same RPMS you're talking about with my '96 and for months I looked everywhere. I stripped the heat-shields (good riddance anyway) and that wasn't it. The mechanic told me he couldn't hear it. Another mechanic told me it was the honeycombe inside the cats, breaking loose from age. The exhaust guy said 'no' it wasn't. He said it was something else. The auto engineer said it was in the tranny. The transmission guy said it was the cats!!! Finally I saw ANOTHER exhaust guy and he discovered that one of my cats was touching the cross-member under the chassis and vibrating against it BUT only at certain RPMs because of the way the motor torque-twists on it's mounts (normal) at those specific RPMs. He heated up the exhaust-pipe a couple of inches in front and behind the cat, stuck a pry-bar in there and jimmy'd it upward about an inch. The problem that had been plauging me, buggin the $h1t out of me for months and really causing me worries about what may happen to my credit card was solved for $30. I hope that this is the same for you. Let me know.

Dude, That looks awesome

Jrvanas, Dude, did you ever figure out what was squealing?

I love my pathy. I really do. But it's the most underpowered, sluggish thing I've ever driven on a highway. We got no Nissan V8 in Australia to transplant (or I would). As my 3.3 is perfectly healthy, though, I'm going overbore (3.5), K&N, chip, custom exhaust and supercharger. It'll cost a bundle but I got passed by an 18-wheeler going uphill on a highway last week. It was embarrasing. Everyone's Pathfinder is their own and if they were all alike then this would be the most boring forum on the web, I reckon. Good on ya SPK & SW. (And Semper Chevrolet.)

Is this offer still open KnightRyder?

WANTED: An original spare wheel carrier for a '96-'99 R50. Prefer with mounting hardware. I live in Australia and these were never offered here so I'm importing. Good condition. Price negotiable. Talk in US or Canada dollars and I'll convert to Aussie dollars. I'll pay freight. Definitely want one for myself and may want a second for a friend, also. Please PM me. Cheers,

You're a braver man than I... (It's not the risk to life and limb. I'ts the fear of bending something expensive).
