  1. The frame in that area is thick enough to do it with a stick welder, I did mine a few years ago and had a fella machine me up some nice thick wall cups.

For the cost of buying or renting a welder, I am sure you will be able to find someone with a welder to do the job far cheaper, especially if you do all the prep work.

You'll be surprised how much nicer it handles afterward!

On ebay you can buy replacement cups similar to those I had made up :

  2. 4 cyl Petrol will be a Z24.

Engine number is on the LHS where the head meets the block. Engine number will start with 'Z24'

If it's an 89 it will have the 8 plug cylinder head.
Can tell if you chuck up a pic.

Parts are easy to find for these, I am rebuilding mine at the moment.

  3. Is it a 4 cyl or a V6? And 2 or 4 door? They are starting to get rare here now.

We don't really get frame rot here in Austraila as a general rule unless they have been used on the beach.
I've had 4 WD21s and they have all been rust free except the bottoms of the guards.

Keep all over gumtree and marketplace, that's where I got mine and my parts car.

You won't find a fuse for the winch power due to the high current draw of the motor under load. Much like the starter motor but winch motors pull more and much longer than starters. That is why many winch install kits have a shut off switch near the battery. It is possible there is a high amp breaker switch somewhere in the circuit.

My current battery in my Pathfinder is a large(group 48?) AGM made by Deka but branded as Duracell from Sam's club. $160 with 3 year free replacement warranty was hard to beat for an AGM that seems to get good reviews from the boating world. I added a voltmeter many years ago to my truck and have observed voltages running everywhere from 13v to almost 16 with it and I know the alternator charging control is completely in the built in regulator in the alternator. My alternator is from a late 90s Quest, so has twice the current output than the stock unit my truck had. I did up size the charging cable when I observed the original smoking while I was jump starting a truck shortly after the alternator upgrade, but other than that, basically stock and has been working fine for more than 15 years.

I've only ever fitted a shutoff to prevent current draw when not in use & for security. Here in Aus we had a spate of guys unspooling people's winches, running the cable over the roof of the car to the rear bumper, engaging them and effectively crushing the roof in on someone's car while they slept.

We're still in phase 2 and cases are ticking up. 71 cases in the county in the last 14 days. Sounds like it got into some kind of long-term care facility in Brewster. Wearing masks is state law for business employees and customers as of yesterday, but it sounds like the cops have no intention of enforcing that.

    :yeahthat:

We are having close to 200 cases daily, in our state ramping up ever since the BLM protests in Melbourne.

  6. Well my State here in Australia has reinstated the stage 3 lockdown for the next 6 weeks. It really sucks but too many were doing the wrong thing the second restrictions eased.

    How is everyone else faring?

  7. Get where you're coming from, I don't like waste in my vehicles either haha, that's why I run a 2 door.
WDs are a baby compared to most of the 4wd vehicles here in Australia (Landcruisers, Patrols, dual cab trucks etc), and the narrow track and light weight makes them very capable off road for what they are.

  8. I prefer carbs, plus we don't get a say in it with Australian Z24s, we never got the Z24i. I've ran the Weber DGV for over a decade and only had fuel starvation going up one hill that was nearly vertical.

Note you'll need to run a different (low pressure) fuel pump to facilitate the carb conversion.

When I did mine I drilled through the rubber all around until I could get the center section out. Then cut the outer shell with a sazall.  It was a pain.  Absolutely go with the energy suspension replacement bushings,  I believe you leave the outer shell from the original bushing in the frame and these fit inside. Just burn the remaining rubber out with a torch.

That's exactly how I did mine.
