@DesertKyle I was actually down there over Christmas, but not with the Pathfinder.  Truck needs a little maintenance soon, but it'll be down in Tucson mid February when @TowndawgR50 is visiting AZ.  If his schedule permits, maybe I come down and we hit a trail.  I lived down there for a decade and still go there semi-frequently, but I didn't get into 4-wheeling until well after I had moved away, so I'd love to see the trails there offer.  Back then I only had a lifted 2wd Frontier and would go camping up in Oracle.  I only recently realized that the Charouleau gap trailhead is only a few minutes north of where I lived (OV).

Nice, I grew up on the east side so I spent a lot of time up Reddington and Mount Lemmon, haven't been to the gap in a while though. My truck is doing good lately but still has open diffs and a transmission in need of a rebuild soon. I recently discovered my front diff bushings are shot but that's just a good excuse for a lokka :D

I'll pm you my number, I'm bad about checking on here. Just let me know if you're coming down and want some company! I still wanna tighten up a factory lsd too just haven't found one yet, if that offers still stands :)

  2. I had some of the ricochet bushings off eBay for ~6 months and just had to replace them with the dormans. My rack was wiggling and squeaking quite a bit even with the bolts torqued down. Compared to the doorman's the material is a lot thinner, too thin to hold the rack securely in my case. Would not recommend.

Looks like you've gotten some clarification on the splined parts.  The same Pathfinder ratios were in Frontiers and Xterras, with the exception of select 99-00 KC Frontiers (31-spline).  31-spline HG43 and HG46 ratios are slightly different from 33-spline versions, but the carrier prevents use in our trucks anyway unless you want to convert to 31-spline.

You won't find many 4.363's in Xterras because they were only in 00-01 XE V6 models, and for 01 only in XE V6 MT models.  Probably not very common.

Whereabouts in AZ are you?  If you can find any 33-spline LSD, I have two 4.363-geared pumpkins in my collection and could set them up for you.  (Fact is, I'm already sitting on 2 re-packed LSDs, but they are reserved for my homies.)  I've been meaning to hit a JY around here anyway to pull some 33-spline axle shafts to cut up to make a test tool for confirming numbers on them, which means I could also pull it apart and see if we can bump the numbers on it a little with the spare friction plates and discs I have.  Just a thought.

That would be awesome! I'm in Tucson but my lady's family is in Phoenix so we're up there pretty regularly. I'll keep an eye out for a 33 spline lsd and be in touch! :)

PD-84 of the '00 X FSM shows a 4.3 ratio LSD offered. The '02 manual only shows 4.6 and 4.9 rear ends available, so '00-'01 is probably what you're after (and the '01 manual suggests you'll only find 4.3 gears in a manual trans donor, so good luck). Haven't checked on the Fronty but I'd expect a similar story.

Awesome this is what I was looking for. Sounds like my chances of finding one are slim tho :(

Looks like 33 splines in the newer r50s at least, thanks for catching that, got my numbers mixed up :D

I'll keep checking the u pull it's but sounds like I'll end up with an r50 one. I'd like to regear and get a lokka for the front but that's not in the cards anytime soon.

I'd say your easiest solution would be to get an LSD from a Pathy with the right ratio and add more clutch material from any other LSD diff to make a good diff that'll easily fit in/match up with your rear end.

Yeah I've seen that. Forgot to mention I don't wanna do that right now, maybe down the road if I end up with a weak one. Thanks for the suggestion tho!

  6. I've been looking for a lsd in the junkyard lately but haven't had much luck. I'd like an xterra one with the tighter clutch pack but haven't found any with the 4.3 in it. From what I can gather this is an uncommon ratio for the xterra.

So has anyone found a 4.363 in a frontier or xterra? Or should I just put in one of the newer looser pathfinder ones and be grateful its not an open diff anymore. Seems like options are limited with the 31 splines and this ratio. Not interested in messing with the front diff right now so regearing is out and too broke for a locker.

  7. Sounds like you were tapped into the dimmer switch when you were getting 5 volts, I'm pretty sure it uses the ground. Most of the switches and stock head unit are hooked up to it.

I'm using one of those usb cigarette lighter voltmeter things and really like it. Lot easier to install than a hard wired one lol.

  8. This is probably a long shot but I really need a fan shroud now that summer's in full force. No luck in any local junkyards and can't afford a new one. For a 2001 with the VQ35.

    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I don’t have a link for them. You’d have to take some measurements for the cross member at the point where your mounting point for skid will intersect. The member isn’t a uniform size throughout. They are called barn handles. I’ve seen a few different sizes on amazon

    Hmm, ok

I didn’t mount the rear skid securely yesterday because I was waiting on delivery of the brackets for the transmission cross member. I got them earlier today and they fit perfectly. They are door handles for a barn style door.

Can you post a link for these? I'm starting to work on some belly armor and these look perfect. Thanks!

Those shocks will work fine without extending bumpstops. As for using F250 bumpstops, the perpetrator of that experiment would be me. I don’t know that I’ve quite bottomed out my rear suspesnion since putting those in, but they gave me another 2-3” of bumpstop. Typically, If you go to a shock longer than the 26” ones, you should extend bumpstops, as those shocks tend to compress at a longer length and may be the limiting factor in suspension uptravel, which they are not designed to do. Also worth noting is that the 26” shocks (2” lift shocks) should not require brake line/diff breather extension (from my understanding), but do check that on your own vehicle to make sure of that. It’s also worth noting in this discussion that pre-facelift and post facelift R50’s have different shock mounts. The info I just listed applies to my experience and the experience of others with post-facelift R50’s (1999.5-2004). @micahfelker put in 29” bilsteins and dropped a coil on the trail due to having higher shock mounts than me or @02_Pathy, who also run the 29/16 bilsteins.

Cool that was my undertaking but couldn't find a definitive answer. Thanks for clearing that up!

I'll be ordering land rover springs and poly bushings next week, then the rear should be good for a while.

you mean lr9447s right? they’re the land rover springs that go with the 2” lift you have. you should get ahold of bump stops off an f250 that’s what i’ve read a lot of others doing after getting the longer shocks. you also need to check to make sure your diff breather tube and brake lines are okay at full flex at that point.

    also welcome to NPORA!!

Thanks for the welcome! I have some body lift spacers I can use to extend the bump stops if necessary.  Yeah I meant the 9447's. I won't run the spacers in back though once I get them. I need to just jack it up and flex the suspension to check it out but can't do that at my apartment so haven't had the chance yet.

  13. Hey guys, first post on here but been reading a lot the last few months while fixing up our pathfinder. I recently installed some extended length bilstein 5100s (pn 33-185552, ~2" longer) but haven't had the chance to cycle the suspension yet.

I'm planning on extending the brake line and diff breather before doing any real off roading but haven't found a definitive answer on bump stops. Am I in danger of bottoming out the shocks without extending the stops? Currently running a 2" spacer lift but planning on getting LR 9947's soon to replace my sagging stock springs.

    Thanks in advance!
