  1. I could make a really long post, but I'll say this simply; CV's, ball joints, and tie rods will be at a steeper angle than stock.  Other than those parts, everything else shouldn't be affected in any really significant way.  Sure things will wear quicker overall, but the off-road use you'll put it through when lifted will probably be more of a factor on most components than the lift itself.  In my opinion biggest struggle you'll run into will be alignment, as far as parts wearing out I wouldn't worry about it.  Your mechanic is right to be concerned, but he's definitely making you freak out more than necessary.  Unless you're wheeling really hard you'll probably only have to replace anything once since it's really old anyways, and after that the parts will last quite a while as long as you get quality parts.

Ok thank you both. Small things wearing out are just fun to fix every once in a while . As long as nobody else ran into any major problems, I don’t think lifting will be a bad decision. Thank you for the reassurance.

  2. Additionally, if I would have known how much work it would be to maintain as a daily, I wouldn’t have lifted my pathfinder the way I have. At this point it really should just be a toy and trail rig, but I don’t have space for another vehicle at the moment. Just food for thought.

Thank you for the quick response. I see how strong the r50 must be after all of that abuse with the sfd and I haven’t gone as far to consider any thing like that . I will really just be happy with 2in in the front with those lr springs in the back, this should be easier on the cv axles. When regarding tires I was gonna throw on some cheap pro comp steelies on 32s and call it a day. Basically all I do is light to medium muddin with friends and I tow a light trailer every once in a while. If you hadn’t done the sfd do you think it would have held up fine at 2in in lift?

  3. Hey everyone, today I decided to visit the local mechanic and ask him for any advice he could give me about lifting my Pathfinder. I had already made my decision that I was gonna go with the AC springs up front and the NRC9449 springs in the back. I figured i would talk to the mechanic to gain any info I could be missing about other work like pan hard drop etc. He told me that lifting the vehicle would be a huge mistake I would regret in the future. He said it will cause premature wear to all suspension and steering components and completely devalue the truck. I knew that there would be some periodic work I would have to do like ball joints and and potential cv axle work but he was acting like lifting the truck would make it turn into a repair nightmare. So my question for you guys is have any of y’all ran into any problems as a result of your lift? Anything breaking or needing replace? I have no problem working on my own truck and small things needing replacement is fun for me but I am trying to avoid something I will regret considering this is my daily driver. Please let me know what you guys think. Thank you for your time.

It might be a little drive from where you live but I just went to Pull a part in Duluth and they got a 97 pathy in the back, if i remember correctly it was in good shape and the headlights were in tack. Im assuming you know of one closer to where you live, it just crossed my mind that i saw one this sunday. lol

  5. The common causes are vacuum leak or IACV malfunction. Though I guess if your MAF was really dirty and now it's clean it could cause greatly changed signal.

I'd look over everything I removed or touched very carefully to see if I didn't tighten something or broke something, then do the idle speed relearn procedure.

I appreciate everyone’s responses I am narrowing it down to the throttle body. I removed it and sprayed it with throttle body cleaner and wiped it down. The thing was filthy the previous owner never touched it. I was thinking that maybe the computer is confused by the new amount of air flow entering since I cleaned it. It’s idling pretty bad. I tried the idle speed relearn on YouTube but it didn’t work, is there a specific process you have to do? Thanks

  6. Just cleaned my maf sensor and throttle body this morning thought it would be a little thing to do. I didn’t have any problems, I just knew it had never been cleaned before. Just got done and I’ve got a “service engine soon” light on and the truck goes about 15mph without putting my foot on the gas lol. Is this just the computer recalibrating or something else? Anyone know what to do?

Yeah I think it looks good haha

I do think the brown coating it from running non-synthetic oil though. Not a particularly bad thing but an effect of dino oil for sure. With my old engine I only used havoline 10w30 dino oil and my cap looked just like that but worse. Dry looking light brown coating that could be scraped off into a powder.

This is what a BHG looks like:

I agree I figured the mechanic just used conventional. I put in some valvoline full synthetic high mileage. 5w-30

  8. This information is great. I am very thankful for all that you wrote. Based on what you said, you have basically described my driving habits. The temperature is in the thirties and i drive 2-3 mile commutes to school early in the morning. I am very grateful for this piece of mind I was getting a little worried. I dont think I will escalate the situation because I think what you first said about the influx of oil being swooshed around and gasoline entering makes since considering my situation. Also seems a bit low mileage for a blown head gasket. I will keep you posted on any new information I gather. Thank you very much sir!

  9. Background: I got my Pathy back in July of 2018 and it had about 103k miles on it. Originally it was leaking oil and i had that repaired by a mechanic I believe it was the oil cooler seals. The mechanic did an oil change then.

Yesterday I did my first oil change on the pathy at 106k miles. I didn’t want to mess around because I wasn’t sure what oil he used and I like to stay on my own intervals. So as I was changing the oil I took off the oil cap and I noticed a lot of reddish brown powder on the inside of the oil cap. This concerned me cause I know brown sludge means you’ve got a blown head gasket. I checked the radiator and it’s green and full and the reservoir isn’t low. I cleaned the cap with some brake cleaner and then went on with the change. I didn’t think to take pictures of the cap when it was at its worst before I cleaned it but I went to take some pics today of what had already started to build back up after me cleaning it. d3cf2db507c929e12e2a402126afcc77.jpg21a701138f709e1fc6bdb746dae3706c.jpg

The first pic is the cap and the second is the hole you put the oil in for a lack of a better word lol

Prior to me cleaning it the cap was almost completely brown on the inside but there was no sludge it was just that brown dust. Let me know what you guys think is going on. I should also note that the truck is running normal. I am just learning about cars as this is my first one so any guidance would be appreciated. I could be just overreacting lmao

  10. Maybe it would match more if you could get a black “bug guard” on the front of the hood/grille? I have one, and my center grill piece is currently gray due to just being replaced. I’m thinking at some point it’s gonna get painted black, especially if I get some kind of black front bumper

I completely agree. The hope is that in the future I will have a steel off-road bumper and it won’t be a problem. For the time being I think the brush guard would not combine well with a bug deflector but that’s just me da4c4dd5d6c3af30ead0315360facac0.jpg

  11. UPDATE: I was finally able to get the billet on to the new grille. After a few coats of plasti dip, drilling and bending metal, it has finally been installed lol. I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to find any color match paint but I might just paint the next sections to the side of the grille and under the lights black so they don’t contrast as much. Overall I’m happy with it.

  12.
I've heard the same, especially issues with the CVT.  I haven't looked into it much though since it's not at all a style of vehicle that I'd be interested in purchasing.

Have you ever driven a CVT car? I wonder if you feel any shift or hear rpms. I would never want one of those things. Complete money pits

  13. Due to some rust issues my tail pipe fell out of my resonator the other day. I’m referring to the rear part of my exhaust. Basically from the axle back I need a new exhaust. What do you guys recommend? I want to upgrade from stock but I also don’t want to wake up the neighbors lol. Let me know of some of the configurations y’all liked. The rest of my exhaust is in good shape the cat and the middle muffler don’t have issues. Thank you forgive my lack of knowledge

  14. Update: I was checking their website today and I was pleased to notice that they have added an option for 00-04 Post Facelift R50. Nice to know they are now available for the newer models in case anyone was interested. This is probably my favorite bumper I have seen for the Pathy due to its pricing and overall look. When the money is there I will probably grab this one.

  15. I would assume the mounting points should be the same, like my LE grill was molded as one and couldn't remove the middle insert. I bought an 01 grill and the mounting points were the same as the 02 LE grill. As long as you have 5 inserts total (1 in the middle and 2 on each side) it should fit

Ok I appreciate it. I saw a video on YouTube where the shape of the mounts looked slightly different but I agree with you. Might as well give it a shot and order it. Thanks!!
