  1. at first i thought it could be some sort of bearing but i used a stethoscope to rule that out. the sound is a real high pitch, not scream or screach, but a high pick clanking noise? dont know it that is the way to describe it... umm. ya...
  2. it changes with rpm. not really audible from in the cab. louder on cold startups, little quieter after engine is to operating temp. quieter during summer startups. the noise is not any kind of shield rattling. thanks for all the help so far guys, i appreciate the input!
  3. to me the sound is just like a loose chain going over the idler. just like pulling a loose chain over something steel. you know the sound. umm. that is the best i can describe it.
  4. hey. i am really thinking that the sound coming from my truck is my timing chain. is there a way to check the tension? is it possible for the timing chain to wear out? anyone replace the chain themselves? trust me, i got more questions where those came from, but i'll leave it at that for now. thanks much
  5. my 01 LE has the HG43. what would be the benefit of either? would the HG46 have better fuel mileage or what is the real difference between them? is it even possible to switch over to the HG46 from my HG43?
  6. what do you mean by the new tighter lsd? can you tighten the stock lsd or do you have to replace it? what did you do and where you get the stuff from?
  7. Tell me more about this ScanGuage. i am really interested in buying one. I have a 2001 Pathfinder LE. it says on the website that it is compatible. what i want to know is if it will actually tell me the MPG fairly accurately, tell me coolant temp, tell me voltage, speed, anything like that. also, just tell me whatever you think i should know before purchasing one. thanks much!! also, is there a difference between a scanguage and a scanguage2?
  8. i just got from the dealer, dont remember how much but definately not a rip-off
  9. my finacee works at napa in steinbach so i get wicked deals. dont know what regualar price for one is but should be around 40-50 for me. ordered and hopefully in on the weekend.
  10. im from steinbach but right now taking school in brandon. i joined a while back but havent been around the forum for a while.
  11. I live in Manitoba, Canada. temp gets down to -40c the odd time, usually -30c all winter (-22.0F) would it be a bonus to get or make some sort of a winterfront for my 01? i dont know if it would restrict necessary air flow or if there is even any necessary air flow going through the front. thanks much
  12. i tried installing 265/75/16 on my 01 but it was not even close to fitting. i ended up installing 255/70/16 onto my truck. i had put different O.R. Rims on that had a different offset so that may have made a difference. with these rims and the 255/70 tires, i had to do a little triming on the front mud flap and on the front splash guard infront of the tire. for the splash guard, i just unscrewed it from the bumper plastic, made new holes farther foreward, and re-screwed the splash guard about 2 inches farther foreward. this solved the rubbing problem for me. now that i did this, i might beable to get a little larger tire in there but still dont know if 265/75 will fit. check and let me know, i want bigger tires in a few years when these are shot.
  13. i know on my 01 that the strut was shot causing a vibration like you said. i dont think this is your problem but do a quick check to see if it is good or not.
  14. okay, i wont ever really get full flex. thanks for all the info
  15. how much space do have on the inside of the front tires between the struts?? is there room to go 1/4 inch closer?
  16. last question, will 4.25 offset work when putting larger tires on?? will it still clear the strut?? i know that 4s will work but dont know forsure that 4.25s will
  17. i know there are some compatible bilstein shocks for my 01. some guys on this forum have them. i just dont know the part number. its okay now though, i ordered kyb gr-2 instead
  18. okay, quick question. i want bilstein shocks and the guy i'm getting it through needs the part number. can anyone find it for me? i dont know where to look. Thanks
  19. what have you guys devised as far as rear tow hooks. i know it works to have a hitch and receiver, but how about those who dont have a hitch, what do you do? pics would be great!
  20. do any of you have rims?? if so, please post pictures of them
  21. i know there are even more selection than this. i just got these from the local wheel shop and this is what he sent me from my request of 16x8 rims. another question may be, what size of rim should i get??
  22. i want to put new rims onto my 01 pathfinder LE. i will be installing the OME lift coils and larger tires so i need new rims as well. these are all 16x8 rims. which ones should i choose?? ...1.......2.. ...3.......4..
  23. Do you want to lift the pathfinder for ultimate offroading or just to give it the lifted look with more comfort? if you look at the thread a few down from this, you will see one for lifting pathfinders... the decision. it basically outlines what you need. as for shocks, i would go Bilstein shocks in the rear and KYB GR-2 Struts in the front. go to ToraSport to find coils from OME and go to 4x4parts.com to find the AC lift. while you are already replacing shocks and struts, it is recommended to get new strut bearings, strut mounts, and strut bumpers. as well, it is also recommended to get warn manual locking hubs for your pathy. Most say you can put up to 31" tires on the truck. some, however, say they can get 32"s. i dont know the truth, but 31"s are proven to fit. you may need different rims however to beable to fit by the front struts. I am looking to do this exact thing with the OME lift coils on my 01 path LE. haven't ordered anything yet but have spent hours and hours researching different forums around the web. this is the most helpful one. if you want the all in detail, go to This topic to get all the reading you can handle as to which kit to go for. LMK if you need any more!
  24. okay, now after 8 pages of discussion on which lift to put in. Lets make a decision. AC 2" lift coils are for ultimate offroading CONS stiff shocks top out over speed bumps and things camber kit recommended warn hubs recommended OME lift coils are for some offroading but mostly appearance and larger tires. Recommended - Heavy coils for front, Medium coils for rear. CONS have to put strut spacers in front to even out ride height - need 3 - 3/8"x2" grade8 bolts rear is a little stiff warn hubs recommended little more pricey little less lift than AC Shocks and Struts can be ordered however you want, its all up to you. When replacing S+S, its recommended to also replace --- strut bearings --- strut mounts --- strub bumpers If anyone has websites of where to purchase these parts online, please post. If I need to change anything, let me know.
  25. okay, so from reading every post in this thread, i have come to this conclusion. GR-2 front struts Bilstein Shocks for the rear OEM HD Springs for front OEM Med springs for rear Nissan Strut Mounts for this setup, a camber kit is not necessary but is it still suggested?? manual locking hubs also recommended?? install front spacers?? (i would like a template if someone has so custom ones can be made) replace Strut brackets, strut bumpers and strut bearings?? (just cause its already taken apart) I am deciding on a lift obviously and want to make sure i get what would perform best under my condtions. I am using truck as daily commuter in Manitoba Canada. will be wanting to do little offroading in summer, but more in winter with the snow. I dont mind the ride being stiffer because from reading all the other posts in this thread, i know it will be, guaranteed! I also have some questions from other Canadians as to how they get their parts across the boarder. how it can clear customs and how they can get past paying duty on the parts. Finally, I would like to have suggestions as to where i can order these parts. Which are the exact coils, struts, shocks that i need (i dont know if there is only one offered, but just in case there are more than one selection for each name). Which websites I should order through, who i can trust and who i cannot... Thanks so much for helping me out with all my questions. before i found this topic, i was solid into getting the AC 2" gr-2 strut ranch 5000 shock kit. now i have been converted. and if i'm crazy for this, please let me know as well. thanks again
