  1. The damage was minimal. It was basically an excuse for me to use my new DeWalt recip. saw and buy a new truck!
  2. Thanks Vengeful! I still need to toos in the rollbar and get the soft-top finished up. It's all show & no go, but it serves it's purpose. On-On J Collins
  3. No damage was done to the Passenger side
  4. The back end got a little shifted after the landing too, so the rear hatch would'nt close.
  5. Hey Vsick, here are a couple of pics for ya.
  6. Hey 4Hummer, You get some serious props from me on the 4-Runner!! I checked out your page and the whole thing looks like it came like that from the factory! I only hope mine turns out that good! On-On JCollins www.iowanights.com
  7. The sides are surprisingly solid. I have'nt decided what to do for a tailgate yet. A friend of mine gave me a roll bar from a Dodge p'up, so I'm hoping that I can modify that to fit into the Pathy. Other than that I plan to cover the back end with sheet metal/diamond plate, and to have the local boat cover shop make a soft top for it (with window). The kicker is that now I'm almost forced to put a lift on the front because the back end sits so much higher without all of the extra weight on it! Trust me....the pics will definitely keep coming!
  8. So, I did it! Here's the first pics of my Pathy after surgery. Next I plan to weld on "bed rails", cover the inside of the bed with sheet metal, construct a mini-wall where the back seat was, and spray the whole back end with bedliner.
  9. You guys have ALL been a great help! The plan is to start cutting into it tomorrow. I'll post some pics on Monday. Wish me luck!! On-On JCollins
  10. mws, So what you're saying is that I won't need to install a roll cage for stability? I don't use my Pathy for off-roading since there's absolutely no place to ride around here. That would be great if I could do it without the roll cage for now. What do you think?
  11. That's a good idea too. I lost my license for 6 months after the accident so I think I'll have plenty of time to work it out. My only concern is that Rob's on N4W has an internal roll cage that extends out into the "bed". I'll probably need to have one custom built. $$$$$$$$
  12. OK. After taking Mookie's advice, I checked out the pics on N4W. I must say that it's pretty sweet. So, this weekend I'm going to the farm with a sawzall. Wish me luck!!
  13. So, last Thursday night I rolled my '86 Pathfinder 3 times. The only damage is to the roof and the driver side. I've already made plans to find a new truck, but now I'm stuck with this Pathy that I'll get around $100 for if I decide to sell it. My thought was to cut the top off (Jeep style), build some type of roll bar and have a drop top/dune buggy Pathfinder. My questions are. Has anybody done/tried this? Is it going to look retarded? Am I an idiot for even thinking about it? ON-ON JCollins
  14. Well, I finally replaced my digital camera and posted some pics of my homemade roof rack/basket project. If anyone is still interested, all of the pictures are here: http://www.cardomain.com/id/fnweenie Here's the finished project...
  15. I got a Fisher Wahoo a couple of months ago, and I love it. A few small changes and I'll be ready for RAGBRAI. Has anyone here ever ridden RAGBRAI in Iowa? It's a bike ride from the western side of Iowa to the eastern side of Iowa. This year they are expecting around 230,000 people. If anyone is interested check out www.ragbrai.org
  16. Nope. I found one at a local JYard, and had them hold it until I measured for clearance. After I figured out that it would'nt fit....I told 'em to keep it. Sorry I did however find about 3 '88 Pathy's and 2 of them were in great shape.
  17. Well I've got everything done except the lift. It turns out that with the new rack on top I've only got 3/4" clearance in my garage. Hardwaretoad...I LOVE KENWOODS! Before I got this one I had an Xcelon MASK. It was the greatest! This new one is alright so far, but it does'nt have the motorized face (it's manual flip-down). And if anyone is looking to make their own roof basket....HOLLER AT ME! It took me a while to figure out what I would use for materials, but once I got it...I got it together easy. I live in Iowa. The land of corn, cattle, and hogs. So, I went to the local tractor supply, bought a sheet of "Cattle Panel". It's a sheet of fencing that's 16 feet long & 5 feet wide. It's heavy gauge steel wire, welded in a 4" grid pattern. All I had to do was cut it out, bend it, weld it quickly, and throw it on! I also sprayed it down with rubberized undercoating. Total cost for the rack: $15.76!!!!! And I still have enough materials to do 1 or 2 more!! So, if anyone is interested in taking the "budget" route, just e-mail me and I'll send you directions & pics.
  18. Well, the weekend did'nt go very smooth. I hit the salvage yard bright & early Saturday morning, and actually got a rear bumper in PERFECT condition & a stock roof rack (I had to cancel the Xterra roof rack due to lack of garage door clearance). Then I headed out to the shop on our farm to get a little dirty. After that things started going downhill. When trying to remove the bumper on mine, I realized that every single bolt is rusted on as well as all of the bolts for my trailer hitch. I guess that I'll just have to cut 'em all off. So, I moved on to the roof rack/basket. That was easy. I decide to drive into town to get some lunch, and I looked over to my brother in law, and asked, "do you smell something burning?" It turns out that there is a hole rusted in my floorboard (7") and my carpet padding is poking through onto the exhaust. The next thing I know, I've got small flames wanting to eat my feet. I had to add another project to my list, FIX THE HOLE IN MY FLOOR!! So here's the rundown, Stereo:DONE, Roof Rack:DONE, new driver side floor board:DONE. It looks like I'll have to wait until next weekend to finish it up. ON-ON jcollins
  19. Well, my income taxes came back $$$ Time for me to do some work on the pathy. This President's Day weekend project list: 1. Install roof rack 2. Make a roof basket for said roof rack 3. Install new Kenwood KDC-X579 headunit, RF amp, JL subs (I hate theives!) 4. Refinish my stock wheels 5. Attempt to find a new rear bumper & install it 6. If I have time....try a T-Bar lift. I'll post after pics sometime next week. Here is the before. ON-ON!! jcollins
  20. The Streets "Original Pirate Material" Rascal Flats "Melt" The Beatles "1" Slipknot "Iowa" (gotta support the local boys!) Josh Groban "Closer" It's all about the variety for me. I can't listen to the same thing all of the time. Maybe I have A.D.D.
  21. 600 Acres is near Cedar Rapids/Iowa City. I've heard a lot of talk about shutting it down though. Too bad that it's about the only place that I know of that is used for wheelin'. Waterloo/Cedar Falls is 3 hours straight east of Storm Lake and 2 hours north/northeast of Des Moines. I have quite a few friends that Jeeps & Toyos that are always up for off-roadin too.
  22. I love the Pathy airrun. I'm in Iowa too. Hit me up on e-mail sometime if you know of any places to ride in Iowa (other than 600 Acres)
  23. Here's a stupid newbie question. I pulled into my garage after work on Friday. Saturday morning I decided to go buy a new TV and the wife did'nt think she had room in her Saturn SC2 to hold it....so I drove. When trying to start the truck it just kept turning over, but did'nt start. After each try I heard the starter spinning. So, today I plan to crawl underneath and pull the starter, take it to the parts store and have them check it out. Does anybody else think that this sounds like a starter problem? I figured it was either that or something fuel related.
  24. I just have a Haynes manual, it covers Nissan pick-ups '80 thru '97 & Pathfinder '87 thru '95. The books are based on a complete tear down & rebuild. You can order it from their website at http://www.haynes.com/na101.html#anchor566430 or you could stop by your local parts store (that's where I got mine) Good Luck jcollins
