  1. I would hate to sling grease on my laptop. And dragging the 19" monitor and the tower out under the hood is out. Unless your Guttenburg get it in print. My .02.
  2. You will not beleive the difference it will make. Be sure to get some nice gas shocks for the rear and some gas struts up front. It will drive like a new one, well better really. The rear end on mine is so stiff I can just whip it in a turn nail the gas the the rear end slides right around. Nice. No where near the body roll in on ramp and that type driving too.
  3. "Vehicle wobble or shake in the rear at highway speeds or after driving over a bump: This usually indicates worn rear control arm bushings. Replacement of the bushings is a fairly involved task requiring use of a press. New bushings will solve this problem. There are two upper control arms and two lower control arms, with 16 bushings total to be replaced." I just had this done, and you need 4 sets of 2 bushings each. For a total of 8 bushings and not 16. :type:
  4. Ok, had the same thing but different. My 96 2WD would make a wierd lurch when stoping and was very unstable at higher speed in any wind. So I put on some Gabriel HD Struts and shocks. Mucho better but the lurch was still present at stops and take offs. I got the $130.00 bushings off the AC site and then attempted to do it myself. No way. If you want to DYI this one get a sawzall and some good saftey goggles. Some of the bolts came right off. Some had bonded to the bushing steel sleve and had to be cut out. Repairs $200.00. Shocks and struts, $340.00. I took it out on a twisty road today and was hanging corners at over 50mph that before would scare a bull elephant at 40mph, and it hung tight too. I think I could have gone faster. Nice. The truck just sits up and drives like a different ride. Do it. Panhard is fine. I don't think it gets a lot of use. But the Poly bushing would take out some body roll I bet. werd...

    Fuel Leak

What I read here is this only occurs when the tank is real full. So it could be the gas cap, or and overflow hose releasing gas to let off pressure. ?? Not sure just swinging in the dark but I know some taknks have release tube for this reason.
  6. Get the Car Quest Premium Plug wire set for your truck. They are identical to the stock wires and much cheaper than factory wires. Just use the beauty cover black pastic off the old wires if you want to that is. You can toss that mess if you like.
  7. Peter, if your swerving all over the road you have worn struts and shocks. Possible rear trailing control arm bushings too. I am in the process of changing them all out. I got heavy duty Car Quest(Gabriel) Shock and struts. Made all the difference over the stock non-gas shocks, struts go on Monday and bushings should be in Monday so maybe Tuesday. I can not wait, this turck was all over the highway and in a high wind give up. Very dangerous. I hope this fixes it.
  8. Well, if they do not wear out or ever need changing...then why were my cap's contacts pitted and the rotor button contact area scorched? I am also in favor of horse whipping the engineer who put the #6 plug where it is and then gave us that tool to pull it. I call that a knuckle scraper, about wore the skin off both hands trying to get it out and back in. I had to take several breaks and recompose. The rest of the plugs are a snap. Also anyone up under the hood needs to change the PCV valve, mine was clogged bad. -bounce-
  9. I went to get a cap and a rotor today and had a tough time getting one. Car Quest and Advance did not even carry one. Autozone was out and Rieley's had to order me one that will be in tomorrow. Wow. I looked in the Nissan catalog and they do not offer one. We call the dealer and he said it was a non service part...strange. They must wear out? Struts were not as hard but there is a year model break and they change up and some catalogs don't list for early 96 models. From what I can tell they are the same.
  10. Now taking bets on how long the stock speakers will last. I put a 40 Watt a channel JVC head unit and did not bypass the factory Nissan amps. It is loud. Sound quality is muffled. As expected I can run the volume up much over 30 and I know it will run up to 50 from where I had it last with out and amp. I will keep it this way until I blow the factory speakers out then I will replace them with good speakers and run direct to the deck from them past the amps. Trvl
  11. A big old Howdy from a 96 Pathfinder owner from Tennessee! GO VOLS! nuff said.
  12. I just got a 96 Pathfinder 2WD XE, auto tranny. Runs great. I had to clean out the throttle body to fix the stuck accel pedal. And that is it. Well I had the oil changed. It has 113k miles so I will replace the T-belt and water pump as part of routine maintenance as they are over due. Other than that this baby is fine. and for $6k you can not beat this ultra clean city driven truck. Nice. Oh, as for the bugs they mention above, forget them. None are any problem here. The rear bushings need replacing only if it wobbles or you feel the rear end try to come around on the highway after a fast accel with a fast let off the gas. The rear end will shimmy back and forth. I put and after market stereo in this one last night and it rocks your head off... Good Luck, Trvl :type:
