  1. I use a ford taurus 3.8 electric fan on my pathfinder, and they seem very popular with the offroad crowd. Lots of power, two speeds, and it does a good job of keeping my motor cool in 100degree heat.
  2. That switch is likely a clutch interlock, allowing it to start without the clutch pushed down. Toyotas used to have them, but I haven't seen them before on nissans. Where is it located? I agree a complete drain is a good idea, and if you do that then you can just use LSD compatible gear oil, and save yourself the $10 tube of additive. Good luck!
  3. I bought these torsion bars off ebay for $60. Supposedly 25% stiffer, although who knows how old they are. They definitely need a good coat of paint. I'm wondering if anyone knows much about them. Maybe they are just a white painted version of their 1458 red bars marketed to the lowrider/sporttruck crowd? I'm not sure I even need the extra stiffness, but I did just add a winch to my ARB bumper, so it might help a bit.
  4. I never used that socket for anything. I bought a high-wattage USB converter that I wired up under te dash, and thats what the two USB plugs that hang out on either side of the console are for. I know back in the good 'ol days everybody smoked, but now having that whole area of my dash dedicated to a lighter and ashtray is a waste. I'm going to remove the ashtray next and put one of these in its place. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-Dual-Car-Cigarette-Lighter-Socket-USB-Adapter-Charger-Digital-Voltmeter-SC-/261698282804?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cee6ee534 IT's the ideal size to fit in the ashtray spot.
  5. I really appreciate the explanation on that. Thank you.
  6. I used a Pana-vise mount where the cigarette lighter socket used to be. The pics tell the story. I used some stainless 10/32 bolts and nyloc nuts on the backside. This is WAY better than the 3M VHB tape on the top of the dash... Here's the mount- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Panavise-6-Slimline-Pedestal-Mount-717-06SF-/181561976828?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a45efe7fc pg
  7. I am having trouble getting my 4x4 light to function and have narrowed it down to the switches. I think both of mine are bad. Can anyone clarify the operation of the two switches for me? Why did they use two in series? I think its off to the junkyard for more tomorrow. I had two others in my parts-pathy but they are both bad also. Is this a commonly failing part? They sure aren't easy to remove once the threadsealer hardens, with those rounded shoulders....
  8. Considering how a complete 96-99 pathfinder with a failing autotrans on craigslist Would run ya less than $750, I would go find one of those, and do the swap. Then you can scrap the remaining 3000lbs of scrap and get some of your money back. That way you can also get an extra set of rims, a nice R50 center console, and any other goodies you can find on it. Dollar for dollar I think it's the most financially sound way to get your rig back on the road. Food for thought anyway...
  9. Yes, thank you for measuring it out. I really wasn't so worried about hooking it up to the fuel system, but more interested in just having the additional capacity. I could transfer it myself. It would be useless for almost everyone, but it was a question that should be asked, so somebody searching and considering it could find some useful info. That space might just be better-spent on my rig as a a place to mount the air tank.
  10. News your opportunity to turn it into a manual transmission, so it will be reliable, or sell it and fine something else. I definitely would not recommend investing money in another problematic automatic. as you have found out - even with the trans cooler, these are a ticking timebomb.
  11. Has anyone ever heard of anyone installing a Hardbody fuel tank on a WD21 Pathfinder for use as an auxiliary fuel tank? Obviously some brackets would need to be fabricated, but it looks like the space is mostly available. It would bring the fuel capacity up to around 40 gallons, which would give some nice expeditionary range. Might just be time for another junkyard run.....
  12. That looks really good! Any other pics you can post of it?
  13. I did the R50 center console swap and rally like it. The armrest is bigger and sturdier, and the cupholders are just right. I did have to relocate my ebrake handle a few inches to the left, but it wasn't too hard. I think I have some pics of it posted on here somewhere.
  14. I have read about the need for a crank adapter when using the R50 VG33. Is it necessary with all engines (xterra and Frontier) into my WD21, or is it only the motors from R50's? I have read the threads on here about the swap, and facing a gushing rear-main seal leak, I figure since R50's are costing $500-$750 with bad transmissions, it might be the time to do it.
  15. I would recommend the 93-98 inline-6 front coils over the V8's. I have the V8 springs in my Pathfinder and they are very stiff. Keep in mind that my Pathfinder always has 220LBS. of recovery gear + 100 lb. dog back there. Even with a full tank of gas it is very stiff. Thats just my thoughts on it.
  16. I'm going to paint mine this summer. OD green, with a gloss or semi-gloss clear. I have owned many vehicles that were painted olive-drab, and they look nice when wet. Also goes well with a big black arb bumper and rockrails.
  17. Mr. Jim, do you ever try NW Auto Recyclers out in lake Stevens? I usually find 3-5 decent pathfinders out there. My rig is carrying around lots of parts from there.
  18. I have a 92 parts rig I have been picking from. If you need any parts from it they're yours as a thank you for setting up this forum.
  19. I'm surprised I don't see many examples of KA24E swaps into the pathfinders. It seems like the horsepower and torque are close to the VG, but I think it could get better fuel economy. I know most people want more and more power, but for my purposes of exploring old fireroads in the PNW, I might be willing to trade the 10-20 ft/lbs of torque for the possibility of getting closer to 20 mpg. I keep my pathfinder loaded with about 200 lbs. of gear at all times, and I run 31" tires, and they work fine for my needs, so I'm not planning on going larger. Anyone know if my manual trans will bolt to the KA24E?
  20. I'd still like to see a pic of what you're starting with. Gold color right? I have one too. I keep my pathfinder under tight security after what happened to yours.
  21. I've welded near gas tanks in-place before, and it make's you nervous. Assuming your tank is sealed well, and there is no vapor lingering all is well, but these aren't new vehicles....
  22. Sadly, they all end up there... We do what we can, but they still end up there.
