  1. If i can remember correctly, i read something about hemp oil being used as a fuel source. In fact i believe one of henry fords first vehicles produced ran on hemp. Or it had a hemp body i cant remember. I will try to dig it up. I think that we need to ease up on our dependence on oil because it is going to run out eventually. And we need start converting cars to run on other things, like hemp, alcohol, veg. oil stuff like that. Renewable substances that can be grown and not pumped out of the ground. I will try to dig up that article. EDIT ok well turns out there are a ton of articles on using hemp as fuel. And hear me out, because people usually dont listen when i bring this up(oh just another stoner) but i mean it is a very practical alternative. We grow the plants, produce oxygen, and when the fuel is burnt it produces co2. It is a very balanced system. And it can be used for many other things. Such as a plastic like substance, that is said to be stronger than sheet metal, and yes henry ford did build a car out of hemp. Sorry if i didnt exactly grasp the topic, but i thought i would share.
  2. Just saw the preview for the new episode of dirty jobs. Hes goin salvage diving or something like that. Looked to be a 2 door on the bottom of a lake they are gonna be dragging up.
  3. Alright problem solved, i took a section of the old tailpipe, welded it back on, so now it goes up and dumps out over the rear axle.
  4. Lately when it has been raining, or when i haul ass through a big puddle, water is splashing up on something in the engine bay thats not supposed to be wet. I am thinking something in the ignition. But the truck just will not start. It will turn over forever, i can smell gas but it just wont fire. If i sit there and just turn it over and over for at least 5 minutes it will eventually sputter and start. And then it will run fine. Anybody ever have a similar problem? Or have a guess as to what it could be?
  5. Just wondering if anyone with a cut off exhaust have trouble in deep puddles? Last year my tailpipe got crushed by a rock when i was four wheeling, so i cut it off right after the muffler. This year when i have gone wheeling the muffler fills up with water and the truck stalls. It will start right back up but there is tons of steam pouring out of the muffler. And it bogs down quite a bit. I was just curious because ive seen several trucks with nothing after the muffler.
  6. Alright well my ride to school this morning never showed up. So i figured what the hell, turned the key and bam started right up. Im thinking something in the ignition could have been wet, it had been raining pretty hard.
  7. Drove my pathy home from school yesterday no problems. Went to start it this morning, turned over but wouldnt fire. Thought i was maybe out of gas, put a gallon or two in. Turned the key and the same thing happened. I could smell gas when i pumped the throttle but nothing happened. I thought id ask you guys before i tow it to the garage to have it looked at. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
  8. Thats what ive been using on my pathy with 230k since i bought it and it works great.
  9. In petersons offroad magazine, they converted a jeep 4 door wrangler to a diesel. Then proceeded to drive it on both highways and trails. Im not trying to say your wrong, but i think they would know the laws about converting vehicles to diesel and diesel to gas. This could be because it was a cummins from a dodge i believe, and if im not mistaken both jeep and dodge are owned by chrystler.
  10. So if you were getting out of your rig and you push the lock down, and all the doors lock and you close the door it dosent stay locked?
  11. what do you mean it unlocks when you push it down?
  12. Did alittle better than a buddy of mine when he first tried, topped it off all the way to the valve cover i believe.
  13. Should be a fuse diagram on the door of the fusebox. yeah i just hit 230k last month and shes still running.
  14. In the fuse box door isnt a bad spot. If your talking about an illegal substance, putting a baggy of something in your gas door, just wrap it around the gas cap or something works aswell. If your in a rush to hide something quick yank out your ashtray and stuff whatever inside and pop the tray back in. Getting it out is gonna be a pain in the ass but it might be better than getting busted.
  15. WEll im not looking for a crazy steep approach angle. Something similar to stock, maybe a little slacker. The new bumper is going to stick out about the same as the stock bumper maybe 2 inches further. Frame horns? Plan of action is to pull the front bumper off tomorrow and see what we have to work with but i thought i would get a jump start and see if i could get some ideas from you guys.
  16. Alright well my project is about halfway done. I finished my rear bumper and got it mounted at about 1 o clock this morning. So now for the front bumper. My problem is i can not figure out how to mount it securely enough to withstand some abuse. After poking around under the front end things are not looking to promising. Are the stock mounts strong enough to mount a heavier bumper? i would fabricate some new brackets to go from the bumper to the mounts. I was also thinking of coming right off the ends of the frame rails, with square tubing going up diagonally to the bumper. My concern aside from strength is my approach angle. So the idea of ripping out the ac condenser, pump and all the plumbing came up. This would allow me to run the square tubing at a much slacker angle keeping a good approach. And also take a little strain off the old vg. If any of you have any pictures or ways that you have mounted after market bumpers that would be awesome. My deadline is rapidly approaching so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  17. I realize that, all i meant by that was can i use my existing motor mounts.
  18. I realize i cannot use the tranny i have, and probably not the transfer case. I also realize that i will probably run into a ton of problems. But the reason i chose that engine was because it would fit easily in the engine bay and it was not fuel injected, so in theory easier to install. But this has got me thinking that a 3.3 would probably be my best bet, installation wise. So a 3.3 would bolt to my existing motor mounts?
  19. It is a manual transmission. Im pretty sure i wouldn't have a problem putting an older engine in, law wise. The 231 was the one i had in mind. So if i had a engine with a carb, would i run into any problems?
  20. What exactly does a computer on an older vehicle do? A computer in something like my 89 Pathy. What does it control and is it needed. The reason i ask is because over the summer I plan to save up for a new motor and transmission. The motor is well, its old 230k miles. Its had a good life, and so has the transmission. But I'm looking for something with a little more nut. Ive narrowed my choices to an older Buick 3.8L v-6, or a newer GM 4.3L Vortec v-6. To my knowledge a computer was specific to a type of engine, that controls functions on the engine like warning sensors and things like this. So what I am asking is there a need for the the computer? Or is it possible to use my existing computer on a different engine, something with fuel injection?

  22. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! that sucks, they had a pretty good run though, 22 years isnt bad.
  23. the tie down loops that are welded to the frame rails are pretty rugged, but only if your pulling straight, otherwise they just bend.
