cv axle or half shaft replacement
Trancebear replied to shortysmash's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Removing the strut assembly, moving the hub assembly out of the way, figuring out what needs replaced in your drivetrain. Is it clear what is broken/damaged? -
Why do you not have a heat sheild? Do you know how hot a 3.5L gets? I see this all the time with guys/gals who want to spend a few $ less to get an intake. The K&N is only $240 shipped and stops all the hot air from getting to your engine. After 3k + posts is this not clear?

mThey will not work and ANY stock wheel I have tested. One of the biggest reasons I went to custom wheels.

Amazon.com has them all day for $153 shipped free.

Pushing the limits on wheel/tire size
Trancebear replied to Trancebear's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Very much 18's. I almost got the 16's to keep me original tire but if I was spending that much money might as well go for the bling factor. I really think the 18's look more meatier. -
Love the Colorado sand without salt. Our only issue is broken windshields. Good luck guys!

Pushing the limits on wheel/tire size

I have about 1/2 inch between the strut tower and the tire, about the same as my 245/75/16. These tires are 30.6 inches tall. The tires are rated very good all around the web. I needed a good snow tires and wet traction here in Denver. I travel to the mtns alot. They are the quietest A/T tire on the market and the Kevlar sidewalls don't hurt either. The tires also some with free road hazard and free roadside assistance from Goodyear, that suprised me alot. It was a toss-up beyween these and the Yokohama Revo's but for the money the Goodyears are better. Go to Tirerack.com and check out the ratings for all their A/T tires. These Goodyears are #3 on the list. What's good about this size is they are factory upgrade size for the new Pathys and Armada's and most Land Rovers. Should be easy to find used, wheels and tires, all the same bolt pattern. -
You will spend much less money doing a satellite radio add-on to the factory radio. Finding the parts and the cost would be much more than a $50 XM/Sirius portable radio. Here is a pic of my setup. It is the lower blue screened thingy.

Doing a Carfax report is worth the $20. I did one on a Pathy before I bought my current one and found out it had frame damage at one time. They are worth every penny!

That rig looks awesome, same color as mine. I want that same height and the same basket on the roof.

Pushing the limits on wheel/tire size
Trancebear replied to Trancebear's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Nope, it clears just barely but I am going to trim a little plastic just to be safe for when I get this thing airborn. I was very suprised they fit. I bought the whole pachage from the Tire Rack on-line and guessed at the right offset, which is 18mm. These fill the wheel well perfect. -
I finally got me some nice rims and tires. These suckers just barely fit and even have some room for when I beat my Pathy in the mountains. The tires are 265/60/18 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour and the rims are 18x8.5 American Racing Teflon "Fuel". What y'all think? I can't wait to get them dirty. Here are some quick pics, I will post better ones later. My factory aluminum rims and LT245/75/16 are for sale now.

My setup with the 2.5 inch pipe from the muffler back has not effected my low-end torque. It is when these guys use 3-inch pipe is when you loose it. I did the research before I installed it and all is good. 2.5 is the max I would ever go.

Mine was removed when the whole system was replaced, local shops should do it for under a c-note. Diagram below to explains the system..

The rear muffler looking thing is a resonator, works like a silencer. I am running a Flowmaster muffler where the stock one is and 2.5 inch pipe the rest of the way out the back and it sounds good. I always get rid of the resonator on every vehicle i have, you just have to deal with the resonance that you may get. I do not experiance it at all.

Double-Din Video Head-Unit in 2003 Pathy
Trancebear replied to Trancebear's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Hey buddy, thanks for all the info, I am kinda leaning towards the double-din model. I just wish I could see how much the flip-up model covered the controls but then again I don't want my Pathy looking like a gangsta ride..lol I can get either for $440 and the double-din model would be cheaper to install. Are you using the video bypass module? Which one did you go with? -

Trancebear replied to Trancebear's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Do you find it hard to read it being so low on the console? That is one of my biggest concerns. I sure do like the look of the full 2-din unit. -

Double-Din Video Head-Unit in 2003 Pathy
Trancebear replied to Trancebear's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Thanks. Does yours cover the A/C controls very much? -
I am looking to install an aftermarket stereo in my 2003 Pathy and would like to get ideas about going with 1-din or 2-din. I will be either the Clarion Max685BT which is the double-din 7" video screen or the vrx785BT which is the single-din with the flip-out 7" video screen. Does anybody have a single-din video screen in their R-50? I know it will block the A/C controls but can you still get to them? I am afraid if I go with the 2-din unit the screen is mounted too low to use the unit. Bottom line if any of you guys have pics of either video/stereo sizes in your Pathy please post here or send me a link. Below are pictures of the 2 stereos. The features of the 2 stereos are the same.

I would think you would ask me where I am getting my gears before thinking I am talking out of my ass. I have been creating parts for my own vehicles for years when there are none available to me any other way. I have friends and colleagues who have helped me in the past CNC machine parts out of any metal. I have spent 16 years in the Military wrenching trucks and have had to do this many times myself, especially in Iraq. ANY part I want can be milled at any time. I created a lower gear set for my 1999 Cadillac when none where available commercially. I don't want to seem like I am getting nasty, but just because I am new to this forum don't mean I am new to the hobby. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Creating parts this way is not always cost effective but gear sets are. The cost of materials and time for my buddies would come to about $800. There are other companies willing to make custom gear sets but are far more expensive. One that comes to mind is BEW.
