  1. Finally got my lower dash assembly from a 1993 installed in my 1990. Lots of plastic fabrication work involved over the last couple weeks, but I now have 2 USB power ports to charge various items and a felt lining on the bottom so that it doesn't scratch. Couldn't use original mounting brackets for the DIN pocket since the dash support structure in the back is different from between the two, so the DIN pocket is epoxied to the trim ring and I added a screw from underneath to keep it from popping out. The donor piece was "new grey" and not "brown-grey" like my interior. Since I haven't found a paint to match the brown-grey (Rustoleum London Grey is close but a lighter shade), I painted it black. Doesn't look too bad IMHO.
  2. Thank you all for the feedback. I've got some time since the fabrication of the bezel is going to be the time consuming part. Red- Thanks for confirming I'm not certifiable - at least not about this. I've thought about the screen below, but honestly I think that's just too low to be that useful. That's where I may end up, but it's not my preference going in. (I also just installed a single DIN lower assembly under the factory radio that I pulled from a 1993 donor, put added two USB power ports for charging cell phones, etc. I'll try to get pix up next week.) Kyle- I pulled a spare auto climate out of a unit from a JY since my #3 fan speed doesn't work. When I did that, I looked at the wire routing, and it came up from below. Like you said, It was a tight squeeze getting it unplugged from the harness. But since it's coming up from behind the glove box, I think I can make it fit. I'll need to spend more time with the JY unit where I don't have to be too worried about screwing something up. No mechanical connections, thankfully. 5523- I just installed an inclinometer a couple weekends ago. I had thought of doing that, but all of the flip-up single DIN navi systems are too deep to fit in the inclinometer housing. (Plus I like knowing just how cattywampus the truck is, so I don't want to lose the inclinometer... :-) ). I really want everything integrated into a single head unit. I'm looking at units that let me combine navi, iPod, and backup camera. A couple will even integrate with their own TPMS systems, although I'm not sure what good those really are. Nunya- I'll look into that and see what I can find. Thanks for the suggestion. Ex Brit- I agree it might be easier, but not too sure on functionality. To have to take my eyes off the road to know where I'm going seems weird... :-)
  3. I've looked for any information on this, and as far as I can tell I'm the only person on the planet loco enough to even consider this idea. My truck is going to become my daily driver as soon as I get a couple mechanical issues resolved over the holidays. After that, it's onto the fun stuff. One of the things I'm considering is to add in-dash Navi to a truck that was never made for it. My first question is if the AC controls can be relocated with relative ease? The wiring harness looks to have enough slack, but I'm not sure about the "snorkel" for the temperature sensor. The FSM isn't of much help here. I'm hoping to end up with something like this: I know that I'll have to fabricate the bezel (or frankenstein something together). I have a half-down trim bezels I've collected from the local self-serve junk yards, so I have plenty experiment with. And I know that I'll have to cut a couple horizontal metal supports located behind the trim. Do they actually provide any structural support, or is it just over-engineered to keep the dash from sagging? The reason for the Navi on top is so that it's more accessible and easier to see without having to look all that far down. So, is this just crazy talk? Someone talk me off the ledge.

  5. Eagle Rock IS square tubing all around the rear (and on top). Not sure why. Kansas isn't too bad if you want to keep the camo - but some of the close-ups showed it peeling in spots. Not a very pretty site. On the other hand, it does have the Targa Band/Light Bar I'm in the hunt for and the one-pad nerf bars, so it might not have been a bad donor... Oh, well - live and learn.

  8. Hey Paul! I'm a newbie here just like, but it's a friendly place to poke around. And like you, nearly every car & truck we've owned has been a Nissan. Started with a Sentra in 87. Along the way I've had a few Maxima, an '98 Pathy, a couple Armada and a couple Xterra. I don't know about the Juke, though. Maybe if it came in green... John from Nashville.
  9. TahoeRunner- I know the feeling - I wanted one too. I had just graduated high school when the WD21 was introduced and was in the market for a car. I had it down to an '87 Sentra and an '87 Pathfinder (a friend's father owned a Nissan store) and I did the practical thing and bought the Sentra... So now, finally, 25 years after making the practical choice - I was able to make the choice I wanted to make in the first place.
  10. Kyle- Regarding the manifold, that's the problem that I have now. Sounds horrible - but at least it passed emissions testing. I'm toying with putting one of the Nismo/Borla exhaust kits on it when I get the manifold work done, so I'll replace one kind of rumble with another. Precise- It is a VG30e, but it's a 4-speed automatic. So half of a grail... And I'm not a stock purist - I'm going for more of a Nismo resto-mod look when it's done. After sorting out the mechanicals and an electrical gremlin with the door locks, the list includes: - 1993 hardbody chromed grille, marker lights, bumpers, and mirrors - bull guard (black or chrome, haven't decided) - chrome nerf bars - AR-681 chromes wheels - new paint job (the sides are nice and shiny, but the hood and roof are faded from living in AZ for the past 23 years - and the holy grail, if I can find one, is a Traga Band/Light Rail Teixeira & Brian- Thanks, It seemed like the hunt too forever,
  11. After search for nearly a year, I finally found my perfect Pathy. It's a rare 1990 2-door SE-V6 4x4 with only 150K miles. I found the truck in Arizona, and according to the history report it spent most of it's life there. I drove it back here to Tennessee, but had to put new tires on in Albuquerque. (It had a set of passenger car white-walls that were too small for the truck on the ground, and the original spare on the back (per the tire dealer.) Most of it's still original: It has the original paint, the factory cassette deck, and when I got it to my mechanic I found out that it still had the original timing belt! Inclinometer is inbound from New Zealand, so that will be the next install - followed by a new audio system. Mechanically it still needs a new valve cover gasket and new exhaust manifolds (per service bulletin 94-041). Over all, it's in great shape and will be the perfect launching platform for a multi-year transformation.
