Any pictures of your set up? I'm contemplating skipping the OME and just going 245/75/16 but if the OME is really worth it beyond cosmetics I'd consider it

I haven't posted in a while, I used to have a 2004 SE that I sold in 2013 but now I'm back in the R50 game with a gem of a 2001 that I found. 2001 SE with 124,000 miles. I bought it off the original owner who was an F16 Pilot stationed in San Antonio. The vehicle was in Texas and South Carolina since 2011 and now in MA. I am well aware of the salt state recall and checked this one out thoroughly. Apparently there are 3 stages of the issue, 1 where they inspect and undercoat, 2 is when they inspect and will reinforce and fiberglass kit the area and 3 is when they full blown buy it back. This one is super clean but did have a fiber glass kit done on the left side and undercoat on both. I visually inspected the areas and the strut towers look super clean. I've included pics below. I'm super excited about this and plan to modify. Any mod suggestions would be great. I'm going to need new tires but have not decided what size to go with based on of I get an Old Man Emu lift kit. I'd hate to buy tires only to lift it later and they are too small or the other way around. Here she is.

It isn't lifted

Here are some before and after pictures of my 2004 SE. Nothing major was done just some clean up. I removed my running boards, mud flaps and swapped out aging stock tires with 245/75/16s. Craigslist photos: NOW:

To keep or remove running boards

I might not sell the pathy I'm just feeling out the idea. Ill probably keep it. -
I have an 04 SE with 245/75/16s and it has running boards. Should I keep them on or remove them for aesthetics and off road functionality?

How smooth are these R50 transmissions supposed to shift?
PrecisionX replied to PrecisionX's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
So what I described sounds normal? The vehicle was dealer maintained with all services done on time up until 120,000 or so and now he's selling it -
I was curious to know what to expect for transmission performance out of a 3.5L R50? Coming from an E46 BMW automatic transmission that was essentially seemless I drove one that was for sale for a friend who's looking but three states over, he asked me to test drive the R50 and it seems a bit rough around the edges. Potent shift from 1st to 2nd, sluggish to third and smoother to 4th. The rpms don't jump when changing just seems to hold for a second before it shifts. Might be completely normal? I'm OCD about this stuff, if overdrive is off and I stomp on it, seems to be fine, same when overdrive is on. It just seemed slow going to third around town (30mph speed limit). Any thoughts? I don't want to have him buy a bad one

Orange paint on differential. Do I have an LSD?

So it's safe to jack up front the dif? -

Jacking from the rear dif is a big fat no no for an E46... Not so universal after all -

Hey smart ass I'm not stupid, I'm used to working on BMWs and the jack points are completely different. -
This is another reason why I don't like Top Gear America

I'm biased, the BBC Top Gear is the only one to me -

What is the best jack point for the rear for this? -
Because these guys are fake and don't know crap. The Zach Galifinakis looking guy has the 1997 Dodge Ram in this video with a "5.7 liter Magnum V8" huh? Sorry pal that would be a 5.9L or a 5.2L.... Ugh. Worst of all no one picked up on this? Editors? Producers? Common Sense? http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TddmcIsWkFw

I know typically they say that if you do have a LSD that it will have a sticker on the dif that says something about LSD fluid only. Mine is an 04 SE and doesn't have a sticker but does have an orange paint marking where the sticker typically is if there is one. What does this mean if anything? -
5 quarts and about 200ml ish to be exact. The last oil bottle is a 946ml and it now is just above the 700ml mark now.
-
I put about 5.25 quarts in, maybe a little less. My dip stick has a good read on it and it seems to be doing just fine now.
-
Today I did my first oil change, checked under my fender flares (one of them anyway, the other side had one screw strip so I abandoned that project until the weather isn't gross) and got my entire body under it for the first time. The rockers, bumpers, fenders are all rust free and here are a couple garage shots.
-
I am desperate for pictures on these "clips" and or how to go about it. I've removed all the screws and don't know where to even go to now. They are not looser, there is NOTHING defined so that it looks like a clip or whatever... I an staring at it, looking and listening and nothing and not even google has ANYthing beyond vague 10% of the job info. I just want to inspect for rust and clean the @!*%.

Found it, all is well minus the fact that my dumb ass forgot to get a new drain plug and crush washer... I think I'm going to have to use the one I've got...
-
Ok that solved that filter question, secondly though does anyone have any pics for drain plug location or are there any annoying snags of a pathfinder oil change? My BMW had a super annoying drain plug. How many quarts of oil do you add? 5? Or 5.5?
-
I have an 04 SE, I changed my oil on my 02 BMW 330Ci but can't seem to find a DIY for the Pathfinder. The filter in my BMW was on top so I didn't ever fill it with oil before hand because it was a cartridge. Typical step one is the drain plug, then unscrew the filter but how much if any oil are you guys putting into the filter before you put it on? I have 6 quarts, how much oil do you give it from the filler cap? I'm not an idiot I'm just not familiar with the R50.
