Interestingly, a 1.25mm thread may well have been stronger option than a 1.5mm. What got me thinking about this is the amount of land cruiser owners who break wheel studs. An extended 1.5mm must be sufficient though, or they wouldnt sell 'em, right? http://www.boltscience.com/

To get some toyota wheels to fit on a nissan, you'll need to switch lug type and it can be a complete ball ache trying to find nuts with the correct shank to match nissans m12 1.25 thread. Also, some toyota are hub centric and not lug centric, which is something else to consider when some toyota are 108mm centre bore and pathfinders 100mm.. It's all solvable though edit- toyota might be 112mm actually? definitely not 100mm anyway.

Instead of finding a td27 head could you get the gasket and see if that lined up nice with your buddies manifold? There's a Navara forum out there that's a good resource for the td27. If it all goes ahead, it'll be great to hear how it changes changes the performance, keep us informed

That is some good news. A 1988 anything with electric windows would have been a huge luxury over here, would almost be worth wiring in. Refitting doorcards is usually the biggest ball break on this type of job.

Just looking to confirm some similarities. I've got a 1991 3door and have found a 1988 d21 (hardbody) being broken for parts. From what I've read and seen the d21 had a bit of a facelift in 92/93 involving dash/grill and fenders. Am I right in thinking the doors are unchanged and should fit a 3door? A thread specific for part interchangeability could be a great help to many people
