  1. I don't quite understand the exhaust manifold issue .

One of mine was replaced at about 75,000 'cause it was cracked .

I seem to remember something about the hot exhaust gasses causing the manifold to crack if revved past 3000 before everything came up to temp on a cold start , and only in frigid weather .

Didn't Nissan fix this at some point before they went to the VQ35 ?

  2. I haven't had a bike in 25 years , but I'll admit to taking every one I ever had to it's limit... :D

    I had a succession of Kawasaki's , a 1980 KZ550 , 1982 1000R Eddie Lawson . 1983 GPZ750 , and The Beast . a 1975 900 bored to 1075 .

That '82 1000R is worth a pile 'o money now if you can find one....

Sadly , mine was totaled when an old white haired fella pulled a left hander directly in my path , the old "I never saw him" trick....

I left an 85' skid mark then did a perfect Superman 75' and landed square on my head , curled up into a ball and did three rolls . and came up swearing according to witnesses...

Thank God for youth , and helmets !

  3. I replaced the exhaust on my '96 with one of these , for a whole lot less than $650.00....

It's a "cat back" for California standards , you'll see that for the "normal" models it does not come with the connecting pipes used in place of the extra cats on California vehicles .

I was able to use my old pipes , if this is the pipe that broke on your truck they go for about $60.00 each IIRC .

I'm satisfied with it , it's only been on for 10 months/6000 miles but it was a straight forward bolt on replacement and it was CHEAP .

    Sounds just like stock .

  4. I'd just do the 2" in the front if you do AC coils in the rear , see how it looks first .

2.5" may give you a "reverse rake" , not many yet have done that combo so it's hard to say .

If you are going to run 12.5" tires there is going to be trimming involved anyway , the extra .5" may not really matter .

  5. I don't see a problem with it .

When you sell a car you're not selling the plate along with it , and lots of times the plate and number are transferred to your next vehicle .

The plate # on my truck has been on three different vehicles since being acquired in May 1988 .

With all the technology available to scumbags these days , who knows ?

    Better safe than sorry IMO.....

  6. I'm no mechanic and I don't do manual transmissions unless they're on a motorcycle , but I'll throw an idea out there for those who have actual knowledge....

Maybe he fried/buggered the clutch interlock switch ?

Not sure exactly how they work , does the starter turn if the switch goes ?

  7. Damn....

I keep my little Corolla car pretty clean , but my truck is a "neatnik nightmare" ! :lmao:

I work with a guy who does detailing , real nice work .

He bought a 2002 Xterra in late 2001 , to date it has under 15,000 miles on it .

He gets after me to let him do my Pathfinder , and I tell him....

"Kenny , there are things in there that will scar you for life !" .

Years of duck blood , mud , sand , feathers....

It's like the fine patina on an old shotgun to me , take it off and what do you have ?

First thing I bought for it back in 2000 was a full set of the "tray" style mats , 'cause I knew what was gonna happen !

  8. Mine were mounted black side out , I figured I'd keep everything black .

One day I'll get around to spraying the faded bumpers and the locking hubs and be The Black Menace.....

The STT's are not the greatest tire on plowed snow or in slush , if the snow gets deep they burn right through .

They're GREAT in mud , only tried it a few times but it was good thick mud , not deep and watery , thick and slick river floodplain stuff .

Throws up a front/back rooster tail , keep the window up !

Around town they're a hoot , the fronts making some chirping sounds if you push them around a tight corner .

They get a bit squirrely above 70mph , above 75 and it's time for two hands on the wheel .

Same in heavy rain or roads with big puddles , two hands , they don't deal well with too much water at speed .

  9. I've always wanted to try spear fishing , the water up here is a little murky though , not much visibility most of the time .

People with bigger stones than I do it though , mainly for Stripers and Tog .

I wished I'd had a camera 2 weeks back when a GIANT Leatherback Turtle surfaced about 20' off our stern , blew out some stale air , took 4-5 fresh gulps and dove .

Thing had to weigh 800+ pounds , biggest living animal I've ever seen .

Go figure that every time something really cool presents itself for a photo-op I've left the camera at home .

    Porpoise , Mola-Mola , seals , otters , mink , they all know when I'm camera-less.....

More fish porn , of the freshwater variety this time....

CT has an under rated Crappie fishery...

Trout fishing is so-so , but if you're a fly fisherman the Farmington River is a "must hit" should you travel here...

Don't even get me going on duck hunting pics......

  10. ^^ Awesome thanks for the info. So can I run 32's on a 2" lift with a 15x8 rim?

I'm not worried about the tire sticking out beyond the frame, in fact that's part of what I'm looking at achieving.

PS - got pics or link to pics of your current setup?

You'll get some rubbing at full lock in forward motion , it'll be a bit worse in reverse .

You can trim up some plastic in the wheel wells if that's the case , there are threads on what to do .

I just put up pics on the other thread .

  11. Can't really say what's up with those two trucks , but they look similar to my set up height wise .

This pic shows a '96 XE ('99's are the same) with a 2" AC coil lift and additional 1" strut spacers in the front .

32" Cooper STT's on 15x8" Pro Comp steel wheels with 3.75" backspacing .

The coils were "fresh" in this pic , it's since settled a bit but not much....

    a5efc404-7ca9-4c59-bfb5-0b83484799ae.jpg

In these pics you can see how the backspacing pushes the tire out from the strut perch , you can see how without flares they'll be past the fenders by a couple inches .

In some places it could cause legal issues , some people don't like the "wide look" .

    Front....

    resize_image_1757166858.jpg

    Rear....

    resize_image_1757561861.jpg

  12. Most who run 31's or taller are running 8" wheels with 3.75" back spacing .

IIRC those who've run 10" wheels have had problems , there is a thread around here somewhere on it .

Going above 31's will need some lift and 3.75" back spacing to clear the strut perch .

Be aware that these wheels will push the tires well past the fenders in a truck with no flares .

My next set of tires should my truck outlast the 32/11.5 STT's on it now will be 33/10.5's .

  13. XE's were the base model but they came with a decent amount of "extras" available .

The seats are a bit hard , no sunroof , stuff like that .

If I were looking for another R50 and found a '99 with 65,000 miles and no rust issues I'd pay $3,300 for it .

I'd definitely get under it and poke around the lower strut towers though , ask the owner if they had the recall on the towers done .

  14. Are there any badges - "SE" or "LE" on the rear ?

SE and LE are usually badged while the XE's are not .

Have you checked the VIN number for clues ?

A '99 here in CT with that type of mileage would probably go for $3,000 - $3,500 give or take depending on how bad the buyer wants it .

That would also be dependent on any rust issues , mainly the strut towers .

  15. I see in some posts that there are other fishermen here , where are the pics ? :D

    I'll start the ball rolling.....

  16. While pricing parts once on Rockauto , I saw two steering racks for R50's .

One is for trucks "without flares" and one for trucks "with flares" , the latter being a good bit more expensive .

Left me scratching my head and thinking "I'll figure that one out when I need a steering rack"...
