  1. So as I mentioned in the *what did you do to your pathfinder today?* thread, I was cutting my rear fenders and cut through a couple wire bundles on the drivers side. I re-wired it and everything works minus the rear windshield defrost and the radio. I checked all the wires multiple times to make sure they were color matched, and the ones that were the same color Ive swapped and it didnt change anything. I was checking the wires at the radio deck, checking for power. The way I understand it, there should be a constant 12 volts coming off the battery to hold the memory, then another 12 volts when the ignition is turned on. Im not getting the constant 12 volts off the battery but I am getting the 12 volts when the key is turned on. I linked the 2 wires together and the radio turns on, it spits out the disc and doesnt save the presets (I knew this would happen but I wanted to make sure the deck wasnt bad). Instead of going through all the wiring, could I just run a wire from the battery and splice it to the memory wire without it draining my battery? Im not a radio doer by any means. I think this should fix the radio issue but I just wanted some input from those of you that know a bit about radio wiring. Thanks
  2. So I had the great idea of trimming my rear fenders for future large tires. I followed the lines left from the factory fender flares. It didnt quite turn out how I planned. The inner wheel well metal was hanging down so I decided to cut a small strip out of that so it wouldnt cut my tire when flexing. I did the driver's side first. After I got it cut out I took a look and noticed that there are wires there. Well needless to say I cut through 3 bundles and the truck was dead . I re-wired it and everything was good for the most part. Every time I turned the key on the rear windshield wiper would come on and do a couple sweeps then turn off. I found the 2 wires I had swapped and that was fixed. Now everything works except for the radio and the dash clock. The dash clock comes on after about 5 minutes of running then when I shut the truck off and turn it back on the clock is off, when it comes on it start at 1:00. I checked the wires multiple times, all the color codes are matched up correctly. The only issue I ran into was there were 2 sets of pink wires with purple stripes going into one connector, 2 red wires with black stripes going into the same connector, and 2 plain green wires going into the other connector which I had swapped which was causing the windshield wiper issue. The red and pink wires I have tried swapping and it didnt change anything except for causing one of my reverse lights not to come on. So I dont know what the deal is. I have checked the fuses and they are good, and I didnt see any other cut wires. I am going to fill that area in with foam to prevent water from getting into it. I did not attempt to cut the passenger side inner strip. Needless to say this was not one of my best ideas.
  3. I was driving home from work today and felt a warm bit of air on my leg, I reached down towards the floor and felt that it was pretty warm. I checked to see if the heater was on, it was not. I reached back down and the floor was warm to the touch. I put my hand under the floor mat and felt hot air, I slid my hand a little further and went into a hole. When I got home I pulled the floor mat out and there was 2 holes melted in the carpet. I took a look under the truck and saw that right by the y-pipe the floor was rotting away. There is no heat shield above that part of the exhaust and it is f@&$ing up my floor. Has anyone else ever encounter this?
  4. Changed out my transmission fluid and over filled it which went a lot faster than I had read it would, took me about 45 minutes to an hour from start to finish, re indexed the torsion bars 2 splines which took about 2 hours, removed the factory fender flares, now she sits level and looks great.
  5. 95 XE 208k miles all original and runs great,
  6. Your pathy looks amazing man. Where did you get those tires from? Keep up the good work.
  7. I like the tube design. I have manual locks and windows. Im sure the doors a bit heavy. I had a 94 toyota pickup a while back that I would remove the doors from, it sucked though because I had to unbolt them to remove them. I had to remove them and reinstall them by myself which was a pita. This is why I was hoping there was a slip on hinge out there. When I get home from deployment I will look around and see what I can find/make to do this. Thanks for the replies.
  8. Has anyone done this to there trucks? I want to be able to remove the doors easily like a humvee, just lift up and remove. Is there a kit out there for this or has anyone came up with this mod? I cant find anything anywhere. I would love to drive with the doors off during the summer rather than just rolling the window down, it would also help reduce the horrible cigarette smoke smell in it.
  9. I didnt see this anywhere, could you use redline mt-90 in the front and rear diff's also or is that a bad Idea? I am just curious, I am planning on ordering the redline fluid soon for the trans and transfer case, figured if I could use it everywhere I would. Thanks for this post. Lots of good info.
  10. Thanks for that. I didnt realize that the link icon was an actual link lol. There is some great info in there. As soon as I get back home in a couple months I will be changing out all of the fluids. I will buy some redline mt90 online so it will be there when i get home. I know that my tranny was not over filled because when I heard the whining the first thing I checked was the trans fluid thinking that maybe it was low, it was level with the fill hole. Thanks again guys for pointing me in the right direction.
  11. I am happy someone pointed this thread out to me. I just bought a 95 xe about a month ago and it is whining in all but 4th gear. For those of you that had this problem and over filled the trans, how much longer did the trans last? I saw that there were a few people that encountered this problem a few years ago and just overfilled them. I dont have the money for a rebuild so I am going to change it out and over fill it as soon as I get home.
  12. I checked the fluid level in it and it was good. Im going to change all the fluids in the truck though when I get home. The previous owner said it was like that the whole time he owned it. Someone else told me it could be the throwout bearing. My father in law told me that he had an older toyota pickup that did the same thing and he drove it like that for years with no issues. He said it could be because the bearings are wearing. It does have 208k miles so it wouldnt be a huge surprise if the trans will need a rebuild in the future though I hope it holds out for a while. I will just drive it though until it goes I guess. I have heard something before about over filling the trans, I dont know how to do it, but I heard that it was only good to do on the automatic trans. Do you guys recommend any trans fluid additives like lucas or anything? Thanks for the help guys.
  13. Thanks for the info guys. I will have to check it in a couple months when I get back from the desert. I was bored so I thought I would get a head start lol.
  14. My pathfinder makes a whining noise in all gears but 4th. It sounds like the whining noise when a vehicle is driving in reverse. The truck drives great and shifts great it just makes that noise. Any ideas out there of what it could be? It is a manual trans. Thanks
  15. I have done a little searching but havent came up with anything. How can you tell if you have factory LSD? I have a 95 xe. I know on some vehicles they have codes in the glove box that will let you know what you have. Is there anything that will tell you if you have it without taking the cover off? Thanks
  16. I own an XE. I really didnt have a choice in the matter, I found it on craigslist for a good price and went for it. I personally Like not having power windows and door locks, less issues to have to worry about later, but I would have went with any of them lol.
  17. LOL No I am not. Ive been happily married for 6 years now to my high school sweetheart
  18. Whats up everyone. I have a 1995 pathfinder XE with 208k miles and rising and runs great. It has an engine light on for the knock sensor which comes and goes. I have owned the truck for about 2 weeks now and am very happy with it so far. I decided to do a seafoam treatment on it tonight so we will see if it helps it at all. Anyways my name is Scott, I live in Hopkinsville Kentucky and I am in the army. I like to do all the work on my own vehicles. I am looking forward to getting involved in this commuinty and learning about this vehicle.
