    T-belt ?'s

I'm replacing my timing belt and had a few questions. First off, is it best to take the spark plugs out when doing this belt (so you can tell if anything is interfering when putting on the new belt). Also, when I was turning the crankshaft (with old belt still on) I noticed that the tension changed, I mean I was able to turn the belt 45 degrees or so at one point in the rotation and 90 degreed at another point. I haven't taken the lower t-belt cover off yet so I don't know what the condition of the tensioner assembly is. I need to get another puller (or some smaller bolts for the one I got at autozone) to get the harmonic balancer off. Sorry for the ongoing posts on this topic I just had a few questions that deal with my particular situation. Thanks for all the feedback in advance!!
  2. Any one hear of a chip for our pathys. If so, do they work and how.
  3. Any one know why GL-4 is required?
  4. About 2.5 years ago I did something I wish I wouldn't have done now. I decided I would use a synthetic gear oil instead, on top of that it was a lighter (75w-80, or something along those lines) oil than what was called for. The trany @ the time, had about 175k miles on it and was still soundin' ok. Well I ran that oil for about 2 years and just had it changed back in may with a non-synthetic (nissan specified) oil. Any way, now my 2nd and 3rd gears grind (syncros) @ warmer temps and the trany makes a winding noise when the clutch is engaged and the trany is in neutral. This probably is all my fault because I delayed for about 2 months to change the slave cylinder on the clutch when it went bad (summer of '05) aswell as useage of a synthetic oil in a higher mileage trany, silly me. Any way I'm pretty sure that I have read somewhere that using a synthetic oil in an older trany or motor (now that the damage is done) isn't a good idea because it is so slick that it doesn't lubricate aswell (looser, more worn parts) as a non-synthetic oil would. Now that I have heard (thanks to this forum) that the trany requires an additional 1.5 liters of oil than what is called for, I'm gonna add this amount and see if this problem will go away (when the outside temp is above 55f or so). Wishful thinkin. Thanks
  5. How long is the 5 speed manual trany expected to last on the '91 v6 xe (mileage), given it is maintained properly (appx). Thanks

    Timing belt Q

Yah sorry about that last question from me. It was late, what can I say. I'm awake now and understand the basic principal of a 4-stroke again...lol   sorry again

    Timing belt Q

I have a question about ignition timing when going about this procedure(please forgive me, as I don't want to confuse anyone who's in the middle of this project even more and then I throw another curve ball sending them in distraught). If you advance or retard the valve timing in such a way that it is out of sync with the ignition (distributor) timing, do you need adjust the ignition timing so that it is in sync with the valve timing (retard or advance to compensate)? Thanks

    Timing belt Q

Remember the #1 piston must be @ tdc on its compression stroke.

    Timing belt Q

There is 133 teeth total on the belt; there should be 40 teeth between the timing marks on the left and right side camshaft sprockets, and 43 teeth between the timing marks on the left-side camshaft sprocket and the crankshaft sprocket. This is what the chilton says. Hope this helps.
  10. Any body know about a 350 conversion kit for the d21. I've seen 'em before, just don't know where. Theres probably a post on this topic already, hmmm. Thanks
  11. The MC had all ready been pulled by someone who worked there. It was in the back layin on a shelf. I'm pretty sure he said it was from a '90. I don't know what kinda model the mc came from. Mine is drum in back though. Thanks
  12. Yah I'm probably just gonna replace it with a new one and forget about it. Thanks for all the feedback.
  13. I bench bled it and ran at least 1.5 bottles of brake fluid through the system before the final bleed. If it was bad wouldn't leak (between the vacuum boost and the cylinder flange itself)? At least this is what happened with the old one before I replaced it. Maybe it has something to with rear disc brake like 5523Pathfinder said. Anyone know when they started using rear disc on their models. Thanks
  14. I have a 91 nissan pathy XE and I replaced the master cylinder a while back with one I purchased from a junk yard. Now my brake pedal can be pressed all the way to the floor with not much resistance. I think the one I bought is off an older model, say maybe '90 or earlier. Is this master cylinder the wrong one for my year and if so what is different about it? Thanks

    Dust curtains

Any one have any ideas for dust curtains (wheel wells) and how to hang them properly. Mine are pretty well f'd. Do you guys even try to replace them once they've deteriorated. Thanks
