  1. Good write-up boys Finally a civil and informative one. Similar to "theexbrit" I had alot of camber with the AC springs did 2 camber bolts per side but ended up going a different route with camber adjustability.
  2. The motto of this beer is "why just have one"
  3. I made mine before seeing this style and it broke off the very end of the threaded area of the strut. This design which I did consider but opted not to incorporate has a recessed/bored portion that goes down over the strut rod and uses a set screw. I would think that it screws on to the strut as well. Mine threaded up to the shoulder and would have been a better design if it went over the strut shoulder at this area and covered the strut down to the next step in the rod. Here is a pic The busted rod Bits4Vits design looks better and should be incorporated in your design IMHO
  4. This is a strut spacer that I found on the web. The one I built was slightly different and ended up breaking. But this set-up looks better and will solve the top out issues associated with AC coils. http://www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/vitara-/-x90/strut-spacers-2-25-machined/prod_79.html
  5. If I had to do it over again, I would get the KrFabs set-up with all the bells and whistles and follow "ramdalas" thread and never look back.
  6. Thanx Andrew @ KrFabs Got my new steering link! Might have to cut the shaft down to length cause I did a 2" SFD with AC coils, not sure as of yet, haven't laid under the pathy to check. The stock has a bad u-joint and was binding a bit, so I had to angle the steering rack to match the link and wasn't totally happy with that and the block copied from "shift220" was perfect but decided to buy one from KrFabs and be done with it.

  8. Wow sounds like you've done pretty much everything wheels balanced? tie rod ends? rear brake drums warped? drive shaft hit/bent needs balanced? Good luck
  9. I'm sorry, I thought you were responding to my commemt, "Sub Frame Drop is the easiest and best way to lift a Indepenent Front Suspension" 1) The increased force required to assemble springs is primarily due to short strut length. Not to mention the top-out issues created 2) I had to really struggle getting the strut and knuckle mounting area into place. Rotating the strut and knucle to the front of vehicle and using a pry bar and stepping on the control arm just to get it in position to bolt it up again. Seemed weird to me! 3) I copied performance strut design and elongated the upper bolt hole for easy and plenty of camber adjustment 4) And as for the CV angles and hubs, give me a break. Several members including myself think the AC springs alone cause alot of problems, read some write-ups or live with the funky set-up I was giving the guy my 2 cents and you said, "Lets not blow this out of proportion".
  10. Uni-body stiffeners can be fabricated http://www.tntcustoms.com/unibodystiffenersZJ.aspx
  11. Hey "theexbrit" Let me know if you need anything at all and I'll see what I can do
  12. Life is too short to drink bad coffee!!
  13. Go for it "02silverpathy" let us know how it goes and you be the judge. I'll accept your opinion. Be safe and have fun Rocky2
  14. I'm not trying to be a "know it all" but this forum is a discussion board is it not? IMHO the SFD should match your spring height increase or just due the SFD and be done with it!!
  15. I'm not blowing anything out of proportion "silverpath". I did a SFD after I did the AC coils. Have you done a SFD yet? I hope you have or you're speaking opinion without experience. It's pretty easy if you ask me. You know and I know that fitting the strut assembly in position and getting the knuckle in to the strut mounting location was interesting at best. Sure, pulling the stock out is easy but going back in with altered is not. You realize immediately the whole thing is fishy when as you suggest, "I would recommend having a shop build your struts." Oh common DUDE! and what kind of remedy is just put locking hubs and that cures CV angles. WRONG just cover-up! I used the camber bolts and it is not enough correction. Do you see where I'm going with this "blowing it out of proportion" You say put the springs in and then add this, due that and build some of these. Come on !!
  16. Now this is what I'm talking about. http://www.mx6.com/forums/1g-faq-suspension/133312-2nd-gen-illumina-1st-gen-conversion-other-things-how.html
  17. Don't do it. Suspension Lift Extending the strut assembly opens a whole new can of worms. Coils that are stiffer or longer basically increase the length of the strut assembly and although this creates lift, this set-up increaes the control arm angle and alters the overall geometry thus increasing the CV angles and induces postitive camber angles. Putting a strut spacer on top of this set-up only adds to this lift scenario. Sub Frame Drop is the easiest and best way to lift a Indepenent Front Suspension. When you block a vehicle you're just lowering the sub frame/body lift and keeping all the angles the same. Sure, you gotta lengthen the steering link, brake lines and tear into the vehicle with that "no turning back" feeling but it's worth it IMHO
  18. Thanx for your interest I've seen guys cut the lower spring perch off of the stock strut housing, weld the threaded tube extension on to the strut and then use an aftermarket perch springs and top hat/bearing mount. http://www.mx6.com/forums/1g-faq-suspension/144248-koni-insert-installation.html the last 2 photos in this write-up are a great example Alot has to be worked out so don't hold your breathe.
  19. Awesome job! "stioc" I dig how you roll. I also have the missinglink, I don't think it makes a huge difference but can't hurt. I have every cross bar on my Civic, trunk bar, rear control arm bar, front lower control arm, top strut mount and uni-body cross bar. All these together make a difference for sure. So, I guesss what I'm saying is let's get as many cross bracing bars we can. Strut top cross bar should be pretty easy to fab.
  20. Come on boys Give me your 2 cents Let's talk suspension
